The world's largest statue of Jesus Christ. Poland, Swiebodzin, the largest statue of Christ in the world The tallest statue of Jesus Christ in the world

Well, yes, it sounds too loud, the largest, the largest in the world, etc.

But what about, you say, the famous statue of Christ in Rio de Janeiro? What towers over the whole city and coast? Is this really more? But no, the Poles outdid it.

(whispering) Although I don't really believe it, despite the fact that I saw everything with my own eyes. Well, the Polish statue did not impress as much as its hyped Brazilian predecessor.

It's all about emotions. And now only dry facts.

The world's largest statue of Jesus Christ is installed on the southeastern outskirts of the city of Swiebodzin, in western Poland. The total height of the monument is about 52 m, which is higher than the Cristo de la Concordia monument in Cochabamba (40.44 m with a pedestal) and the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro (39.6 m with a pedestal). The height of the statue itself with the crown is 36 m, and 16 m is the height of the stone and earthen hill. The height of the other two statues without pedestals is 34.2 m and 30 m. Thus, in 2010 this statue of Christ is the highest in the world. The maximum width of the statue (the distance between the fingertips) is about 25 m.

The gilded crown of the statue is 3.5 meters in diameter and about 3 meters high. The head of the monument is 4.5 m high and weighs 15 tons. According to other sources, the head is made of hard plastic, and not of concrete, as originally assumed, due to which its weight has been reduced by a factor of three.

Here, the head is being taken to the installation.

The statue can be seen from the road. The one that leads to the German border. A huge white monument with outstretched arms appears on the horizon. But then again, since 2010 we have been driving along this route more than once. How it turned out that we did not notice her, I do not understand. In 2011, armed with printouts from the Internet, we could no longer afford to just drive by. We turned our heads, tortured our daughter with requests “Look around, you have young eyes”, showed her what the statue looks like, already began to doubt that we had confused something ... and then it flashed. Crown. She burned, shone like a beacon. In vain we worried, as it turned out the statue of Christ can be seen within a radius of 40 km.

We entered the city of Swiebodzin. The center looks something like this (someone else's pictures)

We entered in vain, the monument stands on the outskirts.

Huge parking lot. Not many cars, one bus. Incompleteness caught my eye. The monument was erected, but the area around is being landscaped.

Next to a supermarket ... behind the parking lot

Parking lots occupy a huge area, designed clearly for a large number of tourists. But not a very popular place yet.

The monument stands on an artificial hill. Young trees are planted around.

By the way, these trees are deer-horned sumac. Very beautiful trees, with a pleasant velvety bark. They just multiply like weeds. Constantly give sprouts. You gape, instead of a tree there is already a bush. This grandfather is tormented with them.

The initiator of the construction of the monument in 2001 was Sylvester Zawadzki, a priest of the Church of Divine Mercy in Swiebodzin.

The monument was built on private donations, the builders were recruited from the parish of the local church.

Parishioners say that their goal is not at all rivalry with Rio de Janeiro, but the desire to glorify the name of the savior of mankind, Jesus Christ, as much as possible.

Construction took about two years.

In December 2009, the construction was suspended, as a high-voltage power line passes near the monument. In April 2010, permission was granted and construction resumed.

The hill on which the huge monument is being built has a symbolic meaning, since it consists of five circles, symbolizing the five continents of our planet.

The leadership of the region expects that such an unusual attraction will attract tourists and pilgrims to Swiebodzin, whose population is only 22 thousand people. I think it will work, there were indeed pilgrims.

Several shots of the installation of the statue.

Well, goodbye, my impression. Still, it is a monument, a symbol, not a religious object. The old church on the square of little Swiebodzin evoked more warmth and emotions. And this monument interested us more as an engineering structure.

The crown on Christ looks unusual. Somehow I got used to the traditional crown of thorns more. And since a monument to some king. True, it is called "Christ the King", if I translated it correctly.

And yet ... It's somehow empty there. Maybe because everything was recently built? Or lacks the strength of the landscape around? It seems that Christ is the biggest, but still ... and the picture from there opens up quite ordinary, even weak.

Perhaps later it will be possible to climb the hill itself, we saw paths there, but so far everything is closed.
From there, more will be seen ... Let's wait and see.

And that monument in Brazil is completely different, there, of course, the beauty around is plus, even without Christ it is breathtaking ... For comparison, here

Do you know where the largest sculpture of Jesus Christ is located? No, not in Rio de Janeiro - although this figure has become famous throughout the world, adding to the list of wonders of the world, it takes only an honorable third place. The Bolivian reinforced concrete giant Cristo de la Concordia, having a height of almost 40.5 m, is already closer to the truth, but he also lost his leadership position in 2010, moving into the status of an ex-record holder. And today the highest monument with the image of Jesus is located in Poland, in small town Svebodzin.

An imposing 52-meter statue of Christ the King ( Pomnik Chrystusa Krola), the grand opening of which took place on November 21, 2010, seems to soar into the sky from a high hill in the southeastern part of the city, attracting admiring glances and striking with grandeur and grandeur. The monument is so huge that the figure of Christ in a flowing robe is clearly visible almost anywhere in the city.

It took about two years to erect a monument, but it took a good two five years to start implementing the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating a giant sculpture. And all the bureaucracy: if officials had rushed to sign permits, if the search for funds for the implementation of a bold project had not been delayed, if experts had not questioned the safety of the building and many other “ifs” – then the world’s largest statue of Christ could would show up much sooner.

Private donations became the main source of funding - during the construction period, the necessary amount was collected from the world, resulting in an impressive figure of $ 1.4 million, and the builders were among the volunteers from among the parishioners of the local church. It seemed that every resident of the city was ready to make a contribution to the creation of a unique monument.

Like most other statues of the Savior, embodied in concrete, metal or granite, the sculpture of Christ from Swiebodzin is a cruciform structure - Jesus stretches out his arms, as if opening paternal embrace and blessing his faithful flock. The distance between the two palms is 25 meters, and the weight of the entire reinforced concrete structure is 440 tons. It is clear that the construction of such a colossal structure was associated with considerable risk.

Therefore, it was decided to install the structure in parts: first the torso, then arms outstretched to the sides, and only then the head with a golden crown crowning it. By the way, the magic of numbers, used by the authors of many other outstanding sights, is also embedded in this monument: the height of the figure of Jesus without a crown is exactly 33 meters, which undoubtedly symbolizes the length of his life path. The record figure of 52 meters is achieved by the entire structure, together with the sparkling golden crown of the Savior and a pedestal made in the form of a hill.

The creator of the grandiose monument, which won the glory of the highest statue of Christ, can be safely considered Sylvester Zavadsky, the initiative pastor of the local Church of Divine Mercy. And although the copyright is reserved for Miroslav Patecki, who prepared the sculpture project, and Tomasz Korano, who embodied the idea, but without the ardent youthful enthusiasm of the 78-year-old priest, the statue of Christ the King in Swiebodzin would hardly have been able to see the light. Today, this sculpture, designed to inspire Christians on the path to faith, has become a symbol of the parish and the city as a whole.
