The island of Thassos is located in the northern part of the Aegean Sea. It is separated from the mainland of Greece by a 6-kilometer strait (in some places - 12 km). Total area - 380.1 sq. km. The local population is 14,000 people. The capital has the same name as the island - the city of Thassos.

Thassos is the greenest island in the Aegean Sea, with stunning nature and clean beaches. The landscape combines green hills, marble cliffs, snow-white beaches, small waterfalls in the wooded depths. Olive trees, spruces, lindens, pines, cedars, dogwoods grow here.

Holidays on the island are more suitable for lovers of peace, tranquility, natural beauty, and, of course, clean beaches.

Although in general the island is calm, there are places for nightlife lovers to go. In the vicinity of Potamia is the tourist center of Potos, where there are many discos, clubs and bars.

Short story

It is known from the chronicles that even Hippocrates praised the very healthy climate of Thassos.

For a long time the island was part of the Byzantine Empire. In the 15th century, it passed to the Ottoman Empire, but was practically not affected by colonization.

Since 1912, it has belonged to Greece.

In 1941-1944, the island was transferred by the Germans to their allied Bulgaria. Released in 1944.

Currently is a good place for a relaxing holiday.

How to get there

There is no airport in Thassos. Usually they get to the island through Thessaloniki (). Then they go to the port of Kavala, from where ferries sail to Thassos.

There are direct regular flights to Salonki from: Moscow, Rostov-on-Don, Mineralnye Vody, Kiev, Tbilisi. During the season, the geography of departures increases significantly. The main airlines flying from Russia with direct flights: Aegean Airlines, Aeroflot, Ellinair, S7 Airlines.

There is also an airport in Keramoti, but it does not accept direct flights from Russia.

The island is connected by ferry to Kavala and Keramoti. The average travel time from Kavala is 1.5 hours, from Keramoti - half an hour.

Transport

City transport is represented by buses. Most of them go from Limenas to Limenaria, Potos, Theologos, Panagia, Potamia, Skala Prinos. But they go quite rarely, the interval of movement is from 1 to 2 hours.

For transportation, it is better to use a taxi (it is inexpensive here), or a bicycle, scooter, motorcycle, ATV or buggy.
