Walk along the cozy alleys of Taras Shevchenko Park. Park them

This is the smallest square in Kiev, differing almost better infrastructure among the metropolitan park areas. In addition, this is a wonderful art platform for creative experiments, as a result of which numerous creative shops and other wonderful sights of the university park have appeared.

Shevchenko Park is not just favorite place, answering the question of where to go in Kiev, but an officially recognized memo of landscape gardening art of local importance. This is because there is a monument dedicated to the symbol of the Ukrainian people - Taras Shevchenko and one of the oldest universities in Ukraine - KNU.

The idea to create Shevchenko Park came to the officials in 1860. Then the gardener Karl Christiani was entrusted with the design of the square, which was supposed to harmoniously "fit" into architectural ensemble, created by adjacent buildings and the central streets of the city. About 30 years passed - and in 1890 the University Park was solemnly opened.

This is interesting: According to one version, Shevchenko Park appeared thanks to the Brazilian Emperor Don Pedro. He was genuinely surprised that in the middle of the 19th century, right in front of the main building of the university, there was an ugly wasteland where cows graze and pigs grunt. Then the high-ranking guest advised the Kiev Governor-General Alexander Bezak to allocate more funds for beautification of the area, so that there would be a place to relax in Kiev.

On August 21, 1896, when a monument was erected in the central part of the park to the founder of Kiev University of St. Vladimir - Nicholas I, the square began to be called Nikolaevsky. At the same time, the park was divided into walking alleys equipped with benches, trees were planted, flower beds were arranged, and a whole team of workers was hired to take care of the plants and protect the monument to His Excellency.

In 1939, the park received its modern name - Shevchenko Park. It was then, on the poet's birthday on March 6, timed to coincide with the 125th anniversary of the Kobzar, instead of a monument to the tsar, a monument to an outstanding Ukrainian was erected.

This is interesting: Selecting a location proved to be a difficult issue. The city authorities were going to erect a monument on Mikhailovskaya Square, Lev Tolstoy Square and even at the Bessarabsky Market. The authors of the pedestal were sculptor Matvey Manizer and architect Evgeny Levinson.

Among the modern attractions of the park are creative shops, monuments "Grandmother Classic", a birdhouse library, an old tram, as well as a unique mirror kiosk, which appeared here in March 2015. It is noteworthy that Kiev became the first city where this unusual MAF was installed, in which they plan to sell only culinary masterpieces. Next in line are Los Angeles, New York and Barcelona, where there will be a similar kiosk by designer Klaus Lefo.

This is interesting: Another reason to visit Shevchenko Park is to take part in the amateur chess championship, which is held here every year in the summer. The meeting place for fans of gymnastics for the mind is the Black Sea Fountain.

Today, Shevchenko Park is the pride of Kiev, a favorite square for walking with children and friends, a workspace for students who can work outdoors by connecting to free Wi-Fi, a platform for dancing and other master classes, which the poster of Kiev is full of and an ideal place for romantic dates. And not in vain! In the evening, Shevchenko's is especially beautiful and cozy: when the illumination illuminates the area, it seems that time has stopped, and love rules the world!

If you decide to take a walk in the Taras Shevchenko park, it will not be difficult to find it. It is located in the very center of the city, near the main building of the university of the same name. That is why it is not surprising that the main contingent of the park are students. They jokingly call this place the "green building" of their university, because in the shade of old trees it is customary to prepare for seminars or repeat lecture material. The easiest way to get to the park is by metro. The nearest stations are Leo Tolstoy, Universitet and Teatralnaya.

Shops with painted pictures

It is very pleasant to relax in the Taras Shevchenko Park, because especially for visitors, creative benches are installed along all the alleys. City artists turned benches into real paintings with painted on them. fairy tale characters, animals, nature or abstractions. And recently, designer benches of various shapes have appeared in the park.

Unusual sculptures and fountain

Don't forget to visit the Taras Shevchenko Park and admire Anna Kiseleva's original sculpture Classical Grandmother. This cute grandmother is a symbol of all the old women resting on the benches at the entrance. She is also a kind of talisman for students - by attaching a record book to her bag, you can successfully pass the "tails".

More recently, another sculpture was installed in the park - the monument "Love-Universe" by Alexander Lidagovsky - two lovers seemed to freeze in each other's arms. After taking a picture next to them, go to the original fountain-pond, the outlines of which resemble the contours of the Black Sea. IN holidays it is filled with water.

Information center in an old tram car

If you need a tourist information about Kiev or are interested in the time and place of the next excursions, answers to these and other questions can be obtained at the Kievsky Tramway, an information center for tourists. It is located in Shevchenko Park, opposite the yellow building. In the tram, you can buy a guidebook or souvenir as a keepsake, as well as enjoy a cup of hot coffee.

Chess corner for fans

Daily visitors to the park are chess lovers. They can be seen in a specially equipped park area even in the cold season. And, believe me, everyone will want to join, seeing with what pleasure chess players spend games in the fresh air.

Seeing a wasteland in front of the university, on which cows grazed and pigs lay, the emperor wished to admire the park, and not such a landscape. These are not all the interesting facts that this cozy place for walking can boast of.

  • During the period of its existence, the park managed to change 3 names. It arose in 1890 as "University". In 1896, in honor of Nicholas I, he was given the name "Nikolaevsky". Shevchenko Park is over 120 years old, and its beautiful alleys, as before, attract a huge number of guests. The location of the park makes it convenient to visit at any time of the day. At any time of the year, the city garden named after Taras Grigoryevich Shevchenko has been and remains a favorite vacation spot for Kharkiv residents. In summer, the shady branches of its trees give life-giving shade and coolness, in autumn the beauty of golden leaves beckons, in winter it is the most beautiful winter fairy tale- a white blanket of snowdrifts, in spring - the first green grass, foliage and first flowers. Our parents made appointments here, grandparents walked around. And now our children are running to the cheerful jets of the fountain with joyful exclamations.

Shevchenko Park is a real symbol of the city, its highlight. The history of the garden begins in 1804, when the first trees were planted here by the founder of Kharkov National University Vasyl Nazarovich Karazin, after whom the university is named. The garden fit into the existing oak grove, which was then located on the outskirts of the city. Its upper part has become a landscape park, and the lower part has become botanical garden. The first name given to the park by the founding fathers is University.

Four years later they erected in the garden astronomical observatory, where one could watch the stars, the moon and, of course, make wishes during the meteor shower. And in 1896, the Kharkov Zoological Garden was opened on the territory of the park - the first in Ukraine and the third in the entire Russian Empire. Today the Kharkiv Zoo is also among the leaders, being one of the best in the country.

It is constantly developing, being built, updated, and the collection of animals will be replenished with new interesting species. In the 30s of the XX century, a large-scale reconstruction was carried out under the guidance of the architect V.P. Shirshov, Professor A.I. Kolesnikov and dendrologist K.D. Kobezsky.

In 1935, the garden was renamed in honor of the great Ukrainian poet, Kobzar Taras Grigoryevich Shevchenko, whose monument was solemnly opened on the central alley of the garden.
The Great Patriotic War caused significant damage to the park, destroying more than half of the plants. During the occupation, the Germans turned one of the alleys into a military cemetery for senior officers and commanders of military ranks.

General of the Infantry Division Georg von Braun was buried here in 1941 and in July 1943 - the commander of the 6th Panzer Division Walter von Hunersdorf, who was wounded on July 14 near Belgorod during the Battle of Kursk and died after an operation in Kharkov. They were going to install a pantheon of military glory in the garden, but after the liberation, the burial was destroyed, and the park began to be restored. The reconstruction was carried out by architect A. S. Mayak and dendrologists I. B. Melikentsev, A. D. Ganaeva.

For the 300th anniversary of the park, architect A.S. The lighthouse and engineer F.I. Savuskan presented the city with a cascade staircase. A magnificent architectural masterpiece has become one of the favorite places for Kharkiv residents to walk. You can always see camera flashes here. Pleasing to the eye is not only the staircase itself, a waterfall in the form of steps and a fountain with lions, but also beautiful scenery which opens with observation deck to the picturesque valley of the Lopan River.
In 1963, a cinema and concert hall "Ukraine" was erected here according to the project of architects V. S. Vasiliev, Yu. A. Plaksiyev, V. A. Reusov, engineer L. B. Fridgan. It was an engineering experiment. The roof of the hall is made in unusual shape. Only a summer terrace was erected in the hall, as the architects did not dare to make a forecast regarding the durability of this structure.
In 1967, the central alley of the park was decorated with a fountain, the architect of which was B.G. Klein, and since 1977 he became a light-musical. Probably the whole city was present at the opening of this attraction.

Installation of equipment and lamps was carried out only at night, so that Kharkiv residents remained in intriguing anticipation until the very launch. And the fountain lived up to their expectations. The water, shimmering to the music, sparkled with all the colors of the rainbow. It was a real water show, truly a fairy tale in reality.

It was decided to set up a park near the main building of Kiev University back in the 1860s. Gardener Carl Christiani was given the task of designing the future park. The expert had to work hard, because on a small land plot it was necessary to create a park landscape that would harmoniously unite into a single ensemble with adjacent streets and buildings.

The park began to exist in 1890 under the name "University".

On August 21, 1896, a monument was erected in the central part of the garden to the All-Russian Emperor Nicholas I, who was the founder of the Kiev University of St. Vladimir. From that day on, the garden began to be called the Nikolaevsky Park. The chairman of the special garden commission ordered to equip the park with comfortable walking alleys, benches, flower beds, plant new trees and shrubs. Agronomists were hired to work in the park, who monitored the vegetation. The territory of the square and the monument to Nicholas I were under round-the-clock supervision of a policeman.

According to one of the legends, during a visit to Kiev in September 1876 by the Emperor of Brazil, Don Pedro, he was surprised that there was a very unkempt territory in front of the building of the main educational institution of the city. In 1939, on the site of the monument to Nicholas I, a statue of the Ukrainian folk poet Taras Grigoryevich Shevchenko was erected. From that date, the park began to be named after T.G. Shevchenko.

In 1972, the Taras Shevchenko Park in Kiev was added to the list of conservation areas.
