It shot me to celebrate the New Year 2006 in an unusual way. Turning the globe and thinking a little, I decided to rush to South America. The choice fell on two countries - Peru and Bolivia. The route turned out like this: Ufa - Moscow - Madrid - Lima - Nazca Desert - Balestas Islands - Cusco - Machu Picchu - Puno - Lake Titicaca - La Paz - Lima - Iquitos (Amazon) - Lima - Madrid - Moscow - Ufa. Thoughts about the Nazca lines, the Incas, the Andes, Machu Picchu and other exotic things were spinning in my head.

Organizational issues were reduced to buying air tickets Moscow-Madrid-Lima and back and getting a transit Schengen visa. All other points were decided in the course of the trip.

The flight from Ufa to Lima took a total of 1.5 days and 19 hours of net flight time. I remember the night in Madrid and the peak of Tenerife - highest point canary islands, which stuck out lonely from the clouds covering the Atlantic. Crossing the equator was not marked by anything outstanding. Lima greeted us with beautiful summer weather, +25 on the thermometer and a light ocean breeze.

Lima - Big city. The first impression - you get to America from the films of the 60s. And so, in general, I didn’t particularly remember anything. Made an impression Pacific Ocean, power and greatness are felt in each wave.

The Nazca Desert is 300 km south along the Pan American Highway. I leave early in the morning by bus. The road goes along the ocean. The area around is deserted. Along the coast now and then meet campgrounds and discos open sky. This is how Peruvian youth celebrate the New Year.
The territory of Peru can be conditionally divided into three parts: the coast - the costa - a deserted and rather dull area. The main attraction is the Nazca desert with drawings. The mountainous part is the Andes; there are many monuments of the Inca and pre-Inca cultures. A special place is occupied by the lost Inca city of Machu Picchu. And the third part - the Amazonian selva - endless forests and the Amazon River.
By lunchtime we reach the town of Paracas. There is a yacht club here, from where you can take a walk to the Balestas Islands - the natural habitat of fur seals, penguins and many birds.

On the way to the islands, a trident is visible on the shore, left by the Incas more than 500 years ago. The dimensions are impressive: 200m high and almost 100m wide.

Access to the islands themselves is prohibited, because. It's like a nature reserve. On the main island there is a base for the collection of guano - a valuable fertilizer. Once every five years it is collected and taken out.
Not far from Paracas inland is the town of Ica. Ica has an airport "Las Dunas" from which you can fly over the Nazca desert in a small plane. Near the airport - an oasis, something like a waiting room.

After waiting for our turn and a hearty lunch at a local restaurant, we fly out. After an hour of flight, the Nazca lines appear below. The pilot says something, but everything is in Spanish. You have to look and take pictures.

In general, the lines are impressive. The main thing is not clear: who painted them and why, and how they have survived to this day.
I return to Lima in the morning.

Off-road driving in the desert is officially prohibited, but such territory is difficult for the police to control, and the Nazca lines are regularly supplemented with modern art by local and non-local drivers. There are more drawings of Nazca in the desert than in the photographs, but the pilot was seasoned and laid strong turns, so I simply did not have time to catch some of it in the lens.

On the previous day, my face was badly burned, after all, my body was more accustomed to -30 than to +30 at that time, and there was no sunscreen at hand. This morning I fly to Cusco - the ancient capital of the Incas. This is already a mountainous area and the weather is cooler. 1.5 hours of summer and now the mountains are all around, it is drizzling and cool.

The airport is surrounded by mountains on three sides and accepts planes only during daylight hours. The city is located at an altitude of 3200m above sea level, which also adds complexity to the pilots, and visitors a headache during acclimatization. Locals recommend drinking tea from coca leaves for prevention.

Speaking of coke. I must say that this plant is very common here. There are two types: a jasmine-type shrub and smaller plants. The leaves of what is smaller are used in everyday life. You can drink tea from them, you can chew them, you can transport and store them. They won't go to jail. Local truckers, when tired at the wheel, chew leaves and can drive for 12 hours without rest, a couple of cups of hot coca tea also stick out noticeably and add strength. But from the leaves of the bush, in fact, cocaine is made. They are fighting against illegal plantings, but somehow it is not very effective yet. The first word in the name of Coca-Cola is exactly this Coca.
Around Cuzco there are many Inca ruins and characteristic Inca masonry.

In Chile, in the Mapuche language, the New Year is called We Tripantu and is celebrated between June 21 and 24. On the evening of June 23, several families gather in one house. Women lay a festive table of flatbread, pork, beef or horse meat, potatoes and a low-alcohol drink made from wheat or muday corn. During the gala dinner, the men tell stories from their lives, and the elders give advice to the young. Early in the morning of June 24, at the first song of the birds, the Mapuche come to the nearest river, where they bathe in order to wash away all the old and negative inherent in the past year and recharge with new energy.

Peru

In Peru, on June 24, the Imperial City of Cusco will become the center of Inti Raymi. Before the arrival of the Spaniards, it was here, on the current Plaza de Armas, that the Incas celebrated the beginning of the New Year. There will be a theatrical performance with the participation of 500 artists.

Argentina

In the Argentine province of Jujuy, on the border with Bolivia and Peru, Inti Raymi is celebrated on June 20. Here, the center of the holiday will be the town of Huacalera, not far from which there is a monolith, personifying the Tropic of Capricorn. At its foot from the evening of June 20 locals fires will be lit, alcohol and dancing will help them endure the longest night of the year. The most important illuminated place is Rockefeller Center in New York. It is there that the largest Christmas tree is placed. In addition, there is a free skating rink that operates around the clock. Another feature is that on Christmas everyone rests, for this reason, local residents stock up on food and gasoline in advance.

How do children usually represent Santa? American Santa Claus sits on a sleigh pulled by reindeer. Faithful companions are next to him - elves or gnomes. Many children under the Christmas tree leave sweets for Santa Claus as a token of gratitude.

Present

There is a tendency in America to buy Christmas gifts in advance, and not last. This becomes possible due to the advance updating of the assortment in stores.

For many Americans, buying gifts is an important part of life. They give gifts to everyone: friends, colleagues, people to whom they are grateful. The end of the festive dinner at Christmas is marked by the opening of gifts that have been stacked under the tree for a week. Santa Claus puts presents for kids at night.

404 means the file is not found. If you have already uploaded the file then the name may be misspelled or it is in a different folder.

Other Possible Causes

You may get a 404 error for images because you have Hot Link Protection turned on and the domain is not on the list of authorized domains.

If you go to your temporary url (http://ip/~username/) and get this error, there maybe a problem with the rule set stored in an .htaccess file. You can try renaming that file to .htaccess-backup and refreshing the site to see if that resolves the issue.

It is also possible that you have inadvertently deleted your document root or the your account may need to be recreated. Either way, please contact your web host immediately.

Are you using WordPress? See the Section on 404 errors after clicking a link in WordPress.

How to find the correct spelling and folder

Missing or Broken Files

When you get a 404 error be sure to check the URL that you are attempting to use in your browser. This tells the server what resource it should attempt to request.

http://example.com/example/Example/help.html

In this example the file must be in public_html/example/Example/

notice that the CaSe e sample and E xample are not the same locations.

For addon domains, the file must be in public_html/addondomain.com/example/Example/ and the names are case-sensitive.

Broken Image

When you have a missing image on your site you may a box on your page with see with a red X where the image is missing. right click on the X and choose Properties. The properties will tell you the path and file name that cannot be found.

This varies by browser, if you do not see a box on your page with a red X try right clicking on the page, then select View Page Info, and goto the Media Tab.

404 Errors After Clicking WordPress Links

When working with WordPress, 404 Page Not Found errors can often occur when a new theme has been activated or when the rewrite rules in the .htaccess file have been altered.

When you encounter a 404 error in WordPress, you have two options for correcting it.

Option 1: Correct the Permalinks

  1. Log in to WordPress.
  2. From the left-hand navigation menu in WordPress, click Settings > Permalinks(Note the current setting. If you are using a custom structure, copy or save the custom structure somewhere.)
  3. Select Default.
  4. Click Save settings.
  5. Change the settings back to the previous configuration (before you selected Default). Put the custom structure back if you had one.
  6. Click Save settings.

This will reset the permalinks and fix the issue in many cases. If this doesn't work, you may need to edit your .htaccess file directly.

Option 2: Modify the .htaccess File

Add the following snippet of code to the top of your .htaccess file:

# BEGIN WordPress

Rewrite Engine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %(REQUEST_FILENAME) !-f
RewriteCond %(REQUEST_FILENAME) !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]

# End WordPress

If your blog is showing the wrong domain name in links, redirecting to another site, or is missing images and style, these are all usually related to the same problem: you have the wrong domain name configured in your WordPress blog.

How to modify your .htaccess file

The .htaccess file contains directives (instructions) that tell the server how to behave in certain scenarios and directly affect how your website functions.

Redirects and rewriting URLs are two very common directives found in a .htaccess file, and many scripts such as WordPress, Drupal, Joomla and Magento add directives to the .htaccess so those scripts can function.

It is possible that you may need to edit the .htaccess file at some point, for various reasons. This section covers how to edit the file in cPanel, but not what may need to be changed.(You may need to consult other articles and resources for that information.)
