Bali with kids: the best beaches and things to do In Bali with a small child - first impressions What to do in Bali with a child

What are parents afraid of?

First of all, I want to say that there are a lot of prejudices and myths around the topic of holidays with a child anywhere, and even more so in Asia. In particular, I recently came across such a mother's comment in one of the social networks "Anywhere with a child, but not in Asia! Adults get poisoned, and even more so children."

They are afraid of mothers, acclimatization, insects and reptiles, poisoning, infections and other things. To this I can only say one thing: if you are afraid of everything, it is better to stay at home. And you will save your nerves, and you will not be afraid. Although, to be honest, at home you are not protected from anything. One of my friends broke her leg while in her own apartment. So do not program yourself for the bad, think about the good!

I can’t speak for the whole of Asia, since we have wintered with the child only in Bali and Koh Phangan, but here are the myths I learned about and which I really want to debunk.

Myth #1

"People don't go to Bali to swim, children can only swim in the pool"

For all the time of the first wintering, my daughter never swam in the pool. Well, I just didn’t consider it necessary to bathe a one and a half year old child in chlorinated water when there is a real and live one nearby. We live quite far from the ocean, in the village of Ubud. But half an hour away from us is the Sanur area, where there is a wonderful beach Sindu beach.

It is very clean and the water is calm as the coast is protected by a coral reef. The kids love swimming there! My Hanya is afraid of waves, but she boldly goes into the water herself. I recommend going to the beach at the Inna Grand Hotel, it is quiet there, no one imposes their goods and is very comfortable.

We also love Karma beachon Bukit. It is not only clean and suitable for families with children, but also incredibly beautiful. Hanna especially appreciated the small pools formed after the low tide. She sat like she was in a jacuzzi. Two cons: 1) Go down to it 300 steps🙈 2)It is necessary to take into account the time of high and low tides, because at high tide the beach almost completely goes under water.

The Nusa Dua area is also beautiful. The beaches are clean even during the rainy season, when, for example, Canggu and Kuta turn into a pitiful sight due to the abundance of garbage. And the garbage brings the changing current. When the rainy season ended, Kuta and Canggu were transformed! So keep this feature in mind.

If you are going to Nusa Dua, pay attention to the beachGeger, it is also protected by a coral reef and the water there is very calm, there are no waves.

So you don’t have to worry about swimming in the ocean here. And if your kids can’t imagine life without splashing in the pool, then at almost any hotel you can agree and let you in for a small fee at least for the whole day.

Myth #2

" Nothing to do in Bali during the rainy season "- say those who do not know anything about the rainy season. We arrived a couple of months before the start of the notorious wet season and, to be honest, there was not much difference between dry and wet. The rain gathers, pours, pours out, and in half an hour it is good and warm again. Only once the downpour charged for almost 3 days in a row with short breaks. Agree, you can survive 3 days of rain at a temperature of +25/27😁

Myth #3

"I'll save on insurance ".
It seems that traveling with a child without medical insurance has become really fashionable. . Let the insurance policy remain unused, but you will know that you can count on qualified assistance if necessary. Especially if you are traveling with a child.

Hanyu was hospitalized with rotavirus for three days. Of course I was with her. A separate room, food according to the menu, I’m not talking about constant monitoring of my daughter’s condition. When we checked out, my neighbor (by the way, mother of two children) shared her experience. Her daughter caught rotavirus while in Russia, and they were placed in a general ward, where there were 5 more patients with different infections. As a result, the accompanying adult also caught some kind of infection. So Hanya and I were even lucky to bring rotavirus to Bali.

How and where to choose accommodation?

For families with children, I highly recommend choosing quieter areas. For example, the same

We are Ubud followers. It is green, fresh, calm in terms of security and 30 minutes to the nearest beach. Personally, Canggu and Kuta seem to me not the most suitable for family pastime due to the large concentration of tourists, and, as a result, the abundance of rogues.

However, I know a wonderful couple with a six-month-old baby who love Canggu, but our beloved Ubud did not please them. Every man to his own taste. It’s good that the island is quite compact and if you don’t like the chosen area, you can easily move to another one.

How we searched for a home

We initially knew that we were going for a long time, while still in Russia. We searched very simply: in all social networks we sent requests to groups in Bali about vacant houses in the area of interest to us and within our budget.

The answers were different. The most frequent were of this kind: “Are you out of your mind to look for housing for such a penny?”. Apparently, this is how agents answered us, who are completely uninterested in offering budget options. But we were not upset and continued the search.

As a result, we contacted a girl who lived at that time in Bali (she was preparing for childbirth), she sent us photos and videos of housing options. She also booked a suitable house, knocking out a good discount from the owner of the house.

Housing prices

The price category for housing in Bali starts from 10,000 per month for a room in a good guesthouse and goes to infinity. There are houses for every taste and budget. So do not listen to agents, their interest is understandable: to rent more expensive to get a bigger commission.

As a result, we rented a separate one-bedroom house on the territory, where there are 9 more houses and rooms for rent, and the Balinese family itself lives. Our nest is costing us unrealistically beautiful view on rice terraces, daily cleaning, good internet, electricity and hot water for 20 thousand rubles. Gas for the kitchen, drinking water and laundry services are paid separately. For the same money, we rented a one-room apartment in Perm with a view of a neighboring house. What is called, feel the difference.

. You book a hotel for a few days, you arrive, you take a bike and drive around or go around the area, asking the locals the question "House for rent?". So you will see the house with your own eyes, touch it, and even bargain. By the way, bargaining in Bali is not only possible, but necessary. Russians are usually perceived here as moneybags, and prices are reported to us as highly inflated. So bargain hard. In the end, the right option will still be found. It's not just about housing!

Since I have no experience of staying in a hotel with a child, I cannot answer the question of which hotels are considered the best for families with children. I know for sure that many hotels have children's clubs and water parks, there are babysitting services, so start from whether the hotel has such activities. Where there are many children of different ages, there are many opportunities for natural stimulation of development.

What to do with a child in Bali?

For me, this issue resolved itself. We settled in the house at night, and when we went out to explore the surroundings in the morning, it turned out that the grandchildren of the owner of the house, aged 2-6 years old, live on the territory. Hannah was delighted!

From time to time, more families with children came, and we had an almost international kindergarten;) In addition, we also lived in a place where geese, ducks, cows, many hens and roosters graze. Hanna looked at them with interest, feeding the animals from her hand. For my daughter, a year and a half of such communication with both other children and wildlife was enough, in my opinion. We tried to go to the beach two or three times a week. In this large sandbox, the child is always interested.

Bali zoo and other attractions

We also went to Bali Zoo, which is next to Ubud. Someone thinks that it is inferior to the Singapore zoo, but we really liked the Balinese one. I especially liked the territory where goats, small kangaroos, deer can be fed by hand! In addition, there is a small children's water park.

The large Waterboom and Greenpark water parks are suitable for older children. They are praised on the forums, but at first it was too early for us to go to such places, and then too lazy, so we have not yet formed our opinion about them.

Monkey Forest in Ubud is beautiful and dangerous at the same time. Monkeys run on the ground, climb trees, communicate with each other and do not consider tourists at all. Be very careful, because these are quite aggressive animals. But it’s worth taking a walk in the forest, it’s incredibly beautiful there.

We also, frankly, unknowingly went to Hidden Canyon. It's good that the baby was fastened with a baby carrier. The adventure is very interesting, but extreme: I still don’t understand how Hanya and I dared to crawl along these boulders and jump from stone to stone. Therefore, I recommend leaving the child with a nanny and go to this place yourself.

Hanna loves rides. Fortunately, there are enough of them in Ubud and their prices are low. We love the carousels at the Clandy's children's hypermarket. Tokens in our money cost 5 rubles each. Sometimes we stop by Macdonald's, but only at a certain one: if it has a children's slide. My daughter loves to crawl there with other babies while my husband and I calmly drink our coffee.

Also, in many parts of Bali, Russian mothers organize meetings where children have fun playing, and mothers have a pleasant conversation. There are kindergartens both international and Russian.

How are children treated in Bali?

In general, children are very fond of Bali. Hanna is never left behind, no matter where we are. She is photographed, hugged, treated with goodies, played with her. At first, this was very embarrassing for me, because in Russia we are not used to this. But after the first 6 months of being on the island, I am no longer surprised by anything and calmly react to these squeaks and squeals of tenderness;)

I think that going to winter in Bali was one of the best decisions in my life. In addition to the fact that my husband and I both do not like the cold, and thanks to the wintering we missed the frosts, we also witnessed an incredible leap in the development of our daughter. We arrived at 1.1 and Hanya walked a little upside down.

In Russia, doctors intimidated me with dysplasia, I was very tense about this. And here she began to walk completely normally, and then run! Communication with foreign children, the sounds of nature and the Indonesian language, a lot of movement in a minimum of clothes, swimming in the ocean - all this will leave a positive imprint on the worldview. And it will certainly be remembered by us parents.

In general, my husband and I have a poor idea of how you can leave our Hannah to someone and go on an excursion. That's why we carry it with us everywhere. My daughter happily swam in the waterfall, watched the monkeys, explored the rice terraces with us. And the pleasure from these trips increased, looking at these eyes burning with interest.

I am sure that children are happy where their parents are happy. Yes, perhaps we have not yet climbed volcanoes, did not go to clubs or some festivals, but this is not going anywhere, it will wait. But there is no daughter: she changes every day and these moments are dear to me.

I gathered my family, suitcases and flew to Bali. It was this island that gave her a new home, where children do not get sick, but grow like beautiful exotic flowers, nourished by the sun, vitamins and sea air. Now, having spent almost a year in Bali, the mother of two boys shares her discoveries that will help make life on the island interesting not only for adults, but also for children. And it's not just about the beach.

Two children (3 years and 6 months), 17 hours on the road. It's worth it? Think for yourself: the air temperature is + 28C, the ocean is 10 minutes away, fresh seasonal fruits, the absence of flowering plants that are detrimental to allergy sufferers. The eldest son was 2 years old when we learned what polynosis is. From that moment on, the native birch turned into a forbidden tree, and walks through the fields remained only in books about nature. Endless tests, tests, medications were replaced by bouts of apathy in the baby himself. And we decided to change the place of deployment, at least for a while, in order to restore strength. At that moment, we did not know much about the island and, moreover, whether it was suitable for living with children. Now I can say for sure!

What? Where? How many?

The accumulated travel experience suggested that to begin with it is better to rent a villa for 2 weeks (on booking.com, for example) and at this time find your home.

Renting a home depends on several factors:

  • district;
  • hotel, guesthouse, separate house(as in our case);
  • term (from a year - much cheaper, but you also need to pay the entire amount at once);
  • the presence of a swimming pool;
  • distance from the ocean.

Generally speaking, the cheapest option (guesthouse) starts from $15-20/day. Superior option - about $ 60 / day. A good villa with a couple of bedrooms and a swimming pool costs $100-150/day. There are also good offers for renting a house with a communal pool. Well, there is no price limit.

Most tourist area- Nusa Dua - beaches with white sand and emerald water without waves. Hotels, motels and hostels stretch along the waterfront. We go there sometimes for a change of scenery.

We live in Canggu/Umalas area. On the this moment, it has the most convenient location. The number of cozy, cute cafes and restaurants equals decent quality, and the ten-minute accessibility of the ocean gives this place extra points. There are waves here, and for some this may be a minus, but we are used to and calmly play on the shore, and children enter the water only under the supervision of their parents.

According to friends, the most budget option is Kuta. Here beginner surfers pass their way "on the foam". A place of endless parties, cheap guesthouses and popular nightclubs.

I advise you to contact an agent who has made more than one deal on the island. But still, this applies to long-term leases from a year. There is a very complex relationship between foreigners and land, it is impossible to buy it by law. Having studied various publics, I settled on the forums on facebook. In these groups you can find answers to popular questions, from renting a house/bike to finding a piano teacher. Search groups for the query "together in Bali" "life in Bali".

"What to do with children?"

I, perhaps, will divide into two groups: “where to send the children?” and “where to go with the kids?”

Group No. 1: kindergarten, circus, football, boxing, karate, gymnastics, trampolines, tennis, swimming - this is the part we have tested for boys, I think it is quite suitable for girls.

Kindergarten

Our area is Umalas/Canggu. Choose from two options:

  • Skoebi-do Child Care Center (from 600 rubles / day).
  • Alam Atelier (payment immediately for 3 months, 25 thousand rubles / month), and having visited the second, we have been going for 7 months. The indescribable atmosphere of the ideal kindergarten. Teaching in English. The youngest son was sent there, to the group "from 8 months to 1.5 years."

Circus

A real circus as a sports section! We got there by accident and walked regularly for a month, while there were holidays in our kindergarten. Throughout the week, children learn various tricks, tricks, techniques and games, and every Friday they show a reporting concert for parents and everyone. Amazing energy and relaxation for little fidgets. (8 thousand rubles / week, payment for 2 weeks comes at a discount).

Group #2:

  • Zoo, bird and monkey parks, rope park, stables, elephant farm, swimming with dolphins, run/skater area, rafting (from 6 years old). Tag #balischildren on Instagram as a reminder.
  • Ocean. A sun lounger with an umbrella (200 rubles/day), a couple of spatulas, a bucket, a car - and your children will not be torn off the sand. Still, it doesn't hurt to cool down from time to time. The ocean may seem cool, but even small children quickly get used to it.
  • Children's cafes, however, there are few of them: "Chinta" and "Joglo" are personally tested for 5+. There are also interesting places under the tag #balikafestchildren.

About food at home

There are not many big ones in Bali shopping centers. And grocery hypermarkets can be counted on the fingers. One of them is Carfur. It is easy to find diapers, diapers, mixtures, vegetable purees and hygiene items for children here. But with ordinary cereals and meat in jars, everything is more difficult. We buy oatmeal and rice porridge from Heinz in the Pepito chain of stores. Vegetables and fruits are much cheaper in local markets and 100% tastier.

About the budget

The budget always depends on your needs and what you choose. A small or large house, a bike for rent (from 2.8 thousand rubles per month) or a car (from 8 thousand rubles per month), food in a store or on the market. We have a large family, 3 adults and 2 children, respectively, and the costs are higher.

Returning to whether it is worth going to Bali with children and whether it will be boring there, it's up to you. But our experience shows that Bali is perfect place both for wintering and for long-term residence.

The island has few sandy beaches and many steep coasts. An ordinary tourist with a child does not rush there, but we found suitable resorts for families with children in Bali. We talk about the best beaches and hotels in 2020. Important nuances and tips for vacationers.

Not so long ago, the little-known island of Bali was a place of relaxation for hippies, and now it is a world exotic resort. Unique location between two seas, ancient culture and picturesque nature annually attracts millions of tourists to the island, including those with children.

Nuances of rest in Bali with a child

Housing. Bali has a good hotel base and a rich selection of private accommodation, all of which can be booked online. If a vacation with children is planned for longer than 3 weeks, it is better to rent a house or a villa. The houses are offered in different levels of comfort and cost, but they are all equipped with a kitchen, and if you wish, you can hire a housekeeper and even a nanny.

Food. There are inexpensive pizzerias and Chinese restaurants on the island, from local dishes you can order rice with vegetables or chicken noodle soup - as a rule, children eat these dishes with pleasure. Supermarkets have any food, always fresh fruits and seafood, there are French cheeses and crispy baguettes that are familiar to us.

Transport rental. How is it - to relax on the island and not see the surroundings? After all, all the most interesting is outside the resort. Transport in Bali is easy to rent. However, driving on the island is not easy given the traffic and traffic jams. But there are so many beautiful places that you want to show the children! In addition, it is quite affordable in terms of money.

Some parents vacationing in Bali with children rent a bike - and simply put the child in front or between them, like the locals. It is not safe. Better to rent a car. You can find a rental car at Skyscanner Car Hire - it compares the prices of popular car rental services. Choose a brand and then indicate where you want to pick up the car and where you will return it.

Beaches. There are few good "children's beaches" - clean, small and safe - in Bali. The ocean is often worried, there are strong ebbs and flows, because of which you have to choose the moment between them for swimming. At low tide, it is simply impossible to swim, but you can wander around and see fish scurrying in the water and crawling crabs.

Entertainment. When beach joys get bored, you can look around a little: go to the Waterboom water park in Kuta, visit the Taro elephant park, the turtle farm and the famous Monkey Forest. If the child is already 6 years old, then you can send him to study at a children's surfing school.

When to go?

The island is warm all year round, but from December to March, the rainy season lasts here, and from mid-April to November, dry comfortable weather sets in. During the day the air temperature is +28...+30°С, at night +22...+24°С, the average water temperature is +28°С. Most of the precipitation falls during the winter months from December to the end of February.

Holidays in Bali with children: reviews of tourists

If you are afraid of acclimatization and changing food and water, then it is better to rent a house with a kitchen. Some even bring food with them, although such actions make sense if your child is, well, a very big fan of buckwheat.

Increased air humidity causes particular discomfort, at which scratches and abrasions do not heal well. Even ordinary mosquito bites, combed by a baby, turn into something frightening. Therefore, take repellents and a minimum supply with you.

When traveling with children in Bali, use creams with the maximum level of UV protection and carry a bottle of water with you, because such an amount of sun leads to burns and rapid loss of water. The big problem is that kids do not tolerate long journeys around the island during excursions. Or give up such trips around the island, or choose cloudy days.

There are great kids clubs, water parks and natural parks where you can interact with animals in their natural habitat. O the best places Bali for children Working mother was told by the mother of many children Evgenia Yustus-Valinurov. You can also read Zhenya's story about life with children in Bali.

Despite the fact that Bali is one of the world's most popular resorts, there is a lot of controversy about vacationing here with children. Some try not to bother with this issue at all, pack their bags and go on a trip, others carefully plan their trip, trying to take into account all the foreseen and unforeseen circumstances. Let's try to figure out whether Bali is generally suitable for children's holidays and, if so, which areas should be preferred.

visit paradise island with a child has a number of advantages, among which it is worth highlighting:

  1. Vitamins. Bali has a huge amount of fruits that are ready to saturate the growing body with all the useful vitamins and minerals. Due to various sanctions, it is not possible to try many of them in Russia, therefore, in Bali, in this regard, the soul is resting. However, the child should be accustomed to the exotic with a small portion.
  2. Recovery. Good ecology, clean air, proximity to the ocean can strengthen the immune system. On the island, you can forget what flu, colds and other seasonal diseases are.
  3. Development. Being in international teams, the child becomes more liberated, can learn a few new words in English and try different sports.
  4. Lots of entertainment. Regardless of the age of your child, he will definitely not have time to be bored. Works on the island a large number of developing centers, schools, attractions, parks, there is a zoo, a dolphinarium, a water park and this is not the whole list.
  5. Large selection of cafes and restaurants. In Bali you will find dishes from different cuisines of the world, there are vegetarian and raw food establishments.
  6. Availability good hotels. The hotel base of Bali is represented by modest 3-star and comfortable 5-star hotels. Many have playgrounds, a children's menu, and clubs for kids.

Flaws

  1. Not every beach on the island is suitable for water procedures. There are often waves near the coast, which is not the best conditions for a child. Generally beach holiday Bali should not be the main purpose of the trip, as the island is not ideal in this regard.
  2. Intensive traffic, as a rule, the speed does not exceed 40 km per hour, as a result, you can lose a lot of time to get from one place to another.
  3. There are a huge number of insects on the island, from which it is often simply impossible to hide, so you have to save yourself with improvised means. And above the bed it is necessary to install a mosquito net.
  4. Intestinal infections. You can encounter them not only in Bali, but in all countries. South-East Asia. It is necessary to strictly observe hygiene, eat only in proven places.
  5. The language barrier is also a kind of minus, especially if you plan to spend a long time in Bali. At first, it will be difficult for a child to establish contact with his peers, since they will not understand each other (if this does not apply to Russian tourists).
  6. Quite a long flight to the island, not all children can sit in one place for a long time.
