Map of Bakuriani, the oldest ski resort in Georgia, with hotels and lifts, a detailed map of tracks and slopes for skiing and snowboarding. In this article, I tried to collect all the available options, which should cover, if not completely, then the vast majority of questions and needs regarding the geography of the area, residential and sports infrastructure.

If you were looking for a map of Bakuriani with hotels, then it is in front of you. It contains all 204 local hotels, plus and minus in the lower right corner allows you to zoom in and out of the area, and hovering over the blue marker or tap on it shows the cost per night, photo and rating of the hotel, and the number of tourist reviews, incl. . it is easy to find the housing that suits you for the money. When you find something suitable, just click on the blue marker and see more information.

For better orientation on the terrain, we use interactive map Bakuriani taken from a satellite. It clearly shows that the village itself and the ski resort are located at a short distance from each other. All ski slopes, slopes and cable cars are located in the lower part, where Didveli is written and to the right of Mgzavrebi, so visually assess the scale and book accommodation closer to the ski lift if your goal is mountains, and if your goal is flat activities, such as snowmobile trips or horseback riding , then the tourist part is preferable.

Below you can look at the maps of the routes of Bakuriani, from where all the skiing and snowboarding come from. The schemes contain routes of different complexity, highlighted in different colors, have marks with the names of the peaks with their height, the nearest cafes and restaurants, as well as other objects of tourist infrastructure.

Some of the images are clickable. To enlarge the picture to the maximum size, click on it with the left mouse button and then click on the icon below.

A general panorama of the mountains from which 3 tracks are laid from different peaks: Didveli on the right, Kokhta 2 (Tatra) in the center, and Kokhta 1 on the left. From this angle it is convenient to outline a route for freeride and ski touring.

Varieties of ski routes on the slope of Didveli, divided into 3 groups, depending on the level of professionalism of the athlete.

At the foot of the mountains there is a village where tired skiers and snowboarders flock in the evening.

If you remove all the graphics and distracting elements, leaving only the most important, then the resort layout will look like this. If you are still confused about what's what, then correlate it with the satellite view at the top of the news and everything will become clear.

Maps of Bakuriani and route maps will give you a general idea of this Georgian ski resort, but the 3D panorama with the ability to move between peaks and slopes will speed through the mountains faster than any ski lift and show everything that was not accessible from a distance.

Bakuriani- it is year-round mountain resort, located in a wide volcanic crater at an altitude of 1700 meters, which in winter turns into a ski resort. Since my article is mainly about alpine skiing, I will devote just a couple of words to summer Bakuriani. In Didveli (currently the main skiing area in Bakuriani) in the summer you can go down to panoramic observation deck, located at an altitude of 2700 meters, enjoy the scenery and go down already on foot (you need suitable shoes and preferably an alpenstock). You can also rent a bike and ride it down.

Funicular to the highest point of Didveli

On the top

In Soviet times, Bakuriani was the all-Union base for skiing, the championships of the Union were held here and athletes were trained - "compilations". And, although little remains of those times in Bakuriani, the modern resort has inherited solidity and solidity from its ancestor. This is especially noticeable after Gudauri, who, despite his undoubted advantages, is still a little “raw” due to his youth.

There are several ski areas in Bakuriani (three large and two small "children's"), located at an approximately equal distance from the center of the town, where most of the hotels are located, so you need to go to them by taxi. Fortunately, taxi prices in Bakuriani are quite “divine”: the road from the center of Bakuriani to each of the three zones costs 7 lari ($2.5).

How to get to Bakuriani

From Tbilisi

The distance from Tbilisi to Bakuriani is 205 kilometers (about two and a half hours drive).

By minibus: minibuses from the Didube bus station in Tbilisi run every hour starting at 10 am, travel time 2.5-3 hours, price 10 GEL.

Bakuriani bus station

By train: this is the most logistically inconvenient way - first you need to go to Khashuri, from there to Borjomi, and from Borjomi either by minibus (about an hour on the way), or along the only narrow-gauge railway in Georgia railway connecting Borjomi and Bakuriani (2.5 hours on the way). A trip on a narrow gauge railway (in Georgia it is called "Cuckoo") is a self-sufficient attraction and one of the must-sees of Bakuriani and Borjomi.

From Kutaisi

From Kutaisi to Bakuriani about 180 kilometers (2 hours by car).

By minibus: from the Kutaisi bus station, the journey takes about 2.5 - 3 hours.

From Batumi

From Batumi to Bakuriani 302 kilometers (by car you can drive about four and a half to five hours).

By minibus: from the old bus station of Batumi to Bakuriani, it takes about 4.5 hours.

From Borjomi

On the narrow-gauge train "Kukushka" - very interesting, but long. Kukushka is the only narrow-gauge railway in Georgia, originally intended to transport ore from the Bakurian mine to Borjomi, and now it has become one of the most interesting sights of Georgia. From Borjomi, the train does not depart from central station, and from the station "Borjomi-cargo".

From Borjomi to Bakuriani, the narrow-gauge railway departs twice a day: at 7:15 and 10:55
From Bakuriani to Borjomi: at 10:00 and 14:15

Railway station Bakuriani

Locomotive "Cuckoo"

The train consists of two cars, conventionally they can be called "business class" and "economy class":

train ticket

A ticket to the "business" costs 2 GEL, the car has large windows and heated seats (which is especially nice in winter):

In the economy, you can travel for 1 lari, the interior of the car resembles an electric train near Moscow:

Travel time from Bakuriani to Borjomi is 2.5 hours. the train travels from average speed 15 km / h, which allows you to enjoy plenty of mountain scenery.

In winter, snow-covered paws of Christmas trees literally hang over the tracks:

In both carriages they heat very well, and they are not even warm, but hot.

By minibus: not as interesting as on the Cuckoo, but noticeably faster. Minibuses run from 9:00 to 17:00, 27 km mountain road, travel time 40 minutes - 1 hour, price 3 lari.

Transfer to Bakuriani from GoTrip online service

If you are traveling to Bakuriani with a family or a large group, you might be better off thinking about a transfer right to the door. booked hotel. Comfortable transfers throughout Georgia can be ordered using the local online service go trip. During the booking process, you have the opportunity to choose a class, brand of car and a specific driver based on the reviews of previous passengers. Given the jigit habits of Georgian street taxi drivers and their cars that are far from always serviceable, this is a very useful option. The price on the site is final, you don’t have to bargain with anyone.

Where to live in Bakuriani

Bakuriani has hotels, guesthouses and apartments for every taste and budget. I can safely recommend this one wonderful apart-hotel(rating on Booking 9.6, price from $22 for a studio), very good guest house Mzia's House(review rating 8.7, price from $25 for a double room) and a great hotel Lasha Giorgi(rating 9.2, price from $50 for a double room) - in all three places we stayed in different years, coming to Bakuriani to ski, and invariably were very satisfied.

Another option: you can settle in a much cheaper Borjomi (housing prices will be at least twice lower), and go skiing in Bakuriani by minibus (it takes about an hour, the price is 3 lari (a little more than $ 1). If you prefer this accommodation option, I recommend settling somewhere near the Borjomi bus station, that is, on the northern shore of Mtkvari (for example, in one of the many guesthouses on Pirosmani Street (I stayed in December 2016). By the way, the famous Borjomi Resort Park and most of the expensive hotels are located on the south coast.

Also, while living in Borjomi, as an entertainment, you can ride in Bakuriani once or back on the Cuckoo. But this is exactly tourist entertainment, logistically, the narrow-gauge railway loses outright to the minibus (the train drags at a speed of 15 km / h and overcomes the distance between cities in about 2.5 hours, versus one hour on the minibus).

Alpine skiing in Bakuriani: ski areas

There are three main zones in Bakuriani: "Didveli", "Kokhta" and "Kokhta 2".

"Didveli". The highest point is a panoramic observation deck, which can be reached by funicular, located at an altitude of 2702 meters. At the lower and intermediate stations there is a cafe with free Wi-Fi. However, his speed is not so hot.

"Kokta". The highest point is Mount Kokhta (2155 meters). Equipped with two chair lifts, all three stations have Wi-Fi. At the top station there is an observation deck.

"Kokhta 2". It has several more names, which creates some confusion for those who came to Bakuriani for the first time: on the one hand, it is called "Tatra", and on the other - "Mitarbi". The top point of the zone is Mount Kokhta 2 (2269 meters), where there is also an observation deck.

Children's and educational ski areas:

Twenty Fives. It is located practically in the city of Bakuriani, I reached it from my hotel in 5 minutes on foot. Equipped with four short drag lifts, which are mainly used by instructors and those they teach. The trails are very short and gentle, ideal for the "first steps" on skiing or snowboarding.

Bakuriani: description of routes

"Didveli": two lifts - from the bottom of the cabin, above the chairlift. Even higher is the funicular to the panoramic observation deck.

From the upper station of the second (chair) cable car there are two slopes: black and red. I didn’t check the black one (it’s too early for me to go there), but the red one is quite catable, although in some places it’s a bit cool.

Two slopes go down from the intermediate station of the cable cars: red and blue, both are quite simple and are perfect for not the most advanced skiers (like me) and snowboarders.

"Kokhta": one chair lift and three blue runs.

Trialeti (Kokhta 2): two ski lifts to different heights and two blue slopes.

There are two more mini-zones: one is called "Central Park"(the name is just like in New York :-)) and offers a short blue track, and the second is called "Twenty Fives", equipped with several drag lifts and designed for children and those who are just starting to ski.

Ski season in Bakuriani

Officially, in December 2016, the Bakuriani ski resort opened on December 10, but in fact, out of the three main ski areas (Didveli, Kokhta and Kokhta 2 (Tatra)) only one, Didveli, was launched. The remaining two launched their lifts only on December 24, which can be considered the date of the actual start of the ski season in Bakuriani. In principle, of the three main ski areas, it is in Didveli that this moment the most diverse and long routes, so that the inaccessibility of the rest does not greatly affect the quality ski holidays. If there is a desire to ride in all three zones, then it is better to go to Bakuriani during the high season, which lasts from the end of December until about the end of March.

Lift Schedule

From 10:00 to 17:00. Starting from December 30, the lifts are open until 22:00. During this period, you can purchase two different ski passes: for daytime (from 10:00 to 17:00) and evening skiing (from 17:00 to 22:00)
Prices: until December 30, an adult ski pass for 1 day costs 20 GEL, after - 40 GEL.

Type of lifts

"Didveli": the first stage of the cable car - 6-seater closed cabins, the chairlift goes higher (its chairs are equipped with a special descending "visor" from the sun and snow).

From the upper chairlift station to the top of the mountain with a panoramic observation deck (2700 m) can be reached by the Austrian funicular:

By the way, I strongly advise you to ride the chairlift at least once not up, but down - the sensations are much sharper than when traveling up. It happened to me by accident: after landing at the lower station of the chairlift, my ski accidentally unfastened, and remained lying not far from the landing zone. You can’t go down on one ski, you had to get to the top and from there you still go down on the cable car. As it turned out, going down is much more interesting than going up.

Prices in Bakuriani

One lift - 5 GEL
Day ski pass – 20 GEL
Day ski pass for evening skiing (available after December 24) - 10 GEL
After December 30, an adult ski pass for 3 days - 112 GEL
After December 30, an adult ski pass for a week - 232 GEL

Rental prices in Bakuriani

If you don't feel like bringing your skis and boots, you can rent them all on site. Rental of a ski kit (skis, sticks, boots) and a snowboard kit at rental points near the ski lifts (winter 2017): until December 24 - 20 lari (dollars) per day, after December 24 - 25 lari. In the town of Bakuriani itself, you can find kits for 15 GEL per day.

Inventory rental point

Rental of a snowboard + boots set: 25 GEL.
You can rent separately skis, poles, boots, masks and helmets - 5 GEL per unit per day. If you rent a ski kit (skis, boots, poles), then a helmet with a mask will be given to you for free.
Instructor: 40 GEL/hour skiing and 50 lari/hour snowboard.
There are no sledge and cross-country ski rentals (in fact, there are no cross-country skiing tracks in Bakuriani).

Food in Bakuriani

The town has several cafes, a couple of restaurants and a number of bakeries where you can buy fresh tortillas and khachapuri. There are also about five stores of the "selpo" type with Tbilisi prices and the corresponding assortment. For example, almost everywhere I came across Georgian fakes of Yubileinoye cookies:

It is here and "Anniversary", and even "Jewellery" :-)

But the majority of vacationers (including me) prefer to eat in restaurants at their hotels. For example, in Hotel "Europe Bakuriani" you can have a hearty breakfast (breakfast is included in the room rate), as well as lunch and dinner - but for an extra charge. Although it happened to me like this: on the first evening at the hotel they took 7 GEL from me for dinner, and then the owner of the hotel came and said, “Wai, they feed the guest for 7 GEL! Me too, Georgians!” — after which I was fed there for free.

Breakfast: 10:00-11:00
Lunch 14:00 – 15:00
Dinner 19:00 – 20:00

The choice of dishes is not rich, but tasty and soundly. As comrade Sataneev from the movie "Magicians" said: "The menu is modest, but nutritious!". For example, for lunch they give one type of soup (for example, chicken noodles), cutlets with potatoes, salad, tea. For dinner, homemade dumplings with sour cream and belyashi with potatoes, or pizza and macaroni and cheese. In other words, it looks like a Soviet pioneer camp :-) But with one serious difference: food is implemented according to the principle buffet, so you don’t have to ask for supplements, you can eat as much as you want.

There is also a cafe on the ski slopes, but there are mostly drinks and snacks: coffee, tea, hot dogs. For example, Didveli has a cafe "orange" near the lower station, and a cafe "Le Ponchik" at an intermediate station.

Cafe "Orange"

View from the Donut window

Prices at Donut are lower than at Orange (for example, Americano coffee costs 3 lari against 5), and the choice is richer.

What to do in Bakuriani besides skiing

One of the most interesting "chips" of Bakuriani is an attraction called "toboggan": it's like a mini-roller coaster on a mountainside, you sit in a small cart, which has two levers on the sides (move them away from you - gas, towards you - brake) and you in it, crossed at parting, are allowed down the mountain along winding metal rails.

Down the toboggan flies under the weight of the rider, and back up it is pulled by an electric cable. If you don’t be afraid and let the toboggan accelerate well, then the sensations from the attraction will not yield to the descent from some blue ski slope. This pleasure costs 10 lari ($ 3.5) for 1 descent, you need to buy a ticket at the box office and approach the workers of this attraction with it.

Apres-ski in Bakuriani

You can go to the cinema:

The cinema is located in the very center of Bakuriani, films are shown both in Georgian and in Russian. Tickets for daytime sessions (until 18:00) cost 7 GEL, evening - 10 GEL.

By the way, right in front of the cinema there is an exchanger with a pretty good exchange rate and no commission:

The choice of entertainment in Bakuriani is not as extensive as in the leading European ski resorts - basically, all of them are offered in hotels to their guests: a library, a bar, a restaurant, table tennis, a sauna ...

Bakuriani vs Gudauri? Where to go with children

On the Internet, I came across information that Gudauri is better suited for children and beginners - they say, in Gudauri there are more gentle slopes. I completely disagree with this statement, and here's why. Firstly, the tracks in Gudauri did not seem to me simpler and gentler than in Bakuriani - I myself am far from a pro and the presence of simple gentle slopes in the resort is a very big plus for me. But this is not the most important thing. Much more important is that Bakuriani has separate ski areas for children and beginners: Twenty fives and central park. For example, Twenty Fives is “sharpened” specifically for beginners, equipped with four rope tows and is a short, wide and very gentle training slope - ideal for children and beginners, IMHO.

My opinion: for those who are just starting to ski, Bakuriani will be much more comfortable and safer than Gudauri.

Bakuriani: pros and cons

Pros:
Developed infrastructure
Wide and carefully groomed slopes
Availability of ski areas for beginner skiers and children
The resort is located almost in the center of Georgia, that is, it can be easily reached from Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi.
A large number of hotels and guesthouses for every taste and budget.
You can diversify your stay in Bakuriani with a day trip to Borjomi (from Bakuriani you can get there by taxi, minibus and narrow gauge train, which is quite self-sufficient entertainment).

Minuses:
Prices for ski passes in the high season (after December 30) are slightly higher than in Gudauri.
From the city center to the slopes you need to take a taxi (5 min, 7 GEL).

Useful articles about Georgia:

One of the popular ski resorts Georgia, which is worth visiting at any time of the year, is Bakuriani. V Soviet time it was a base for sports and recreation, where athletes and championships were held. Now it is a solid resort, where there is almost everything that a person who came to relax and ski would need. Bakuriani compares favorably with other young resort areas, so if you need to choose between Bakuriani or, then it is better to go to Bakuriani.

What to do at the resort in summer

Nature flourishes in Bakuriani in summer, and the colorful resort turns into a picturesque place. From the main skiing area of Bakuriani Didveli, it is worth at least once to go down on a toboggan. This is a small cart that goes down the mountain along narrow and winding little rails. The trolley is equipped with two levers located on the sides of it. To increase the speed, they need to be simultaneously moved away from you, and for braking - towards you. The cost of this pleasure is 10 GEL, regardless of the season. In order to ride a toboggan, you need to buy a ticket at a special kiosk near the departure point.

It is worth trying a ride in the summer on the funicular, and two separate directions of the cable car. Get on them to the panoramic observation deck, which is located at an altitude of 2700 meters above sea level. In Bakuriani, this height is one of the most beautiful panoramic platforms. There you can admire the beauty of landscapes - in summer and winter they are very different. From the panoramic platform you can go down on foot. For lovers of unusual riding, mountain bikes are rented. If you plan to descend on foot, then you need to have comfortable shoes and, preferably, an alpenstock so that the walk does not turn out to be difficult.

How to get to Bakuriani

If you have to get from Tbilisi, then the distance between the end points of the path will be 205 kilometers. You can get there by your own car in 2 and a half hours, by minibus - in 3 hours, paying 10 GEL. You can order a transfer from the hotel to the final stop, in some of them this is included in the price. If the hotel offers a transfer, then you should agree to get to the resort with comfort. From Kutaisi, the route will be 180 kilometers in total, this way by car can be covered in a couple of hours, by minibus it will take from 2.5 to 3 hours if you leave from the bus station.

Where to stay and how much it will cost

The ski resorts of Georgia, especially Bakuriani, are full of various guesthouses, hotels, guest houses and apartments. You can find accommodation for every budget. There are several rooms in guest houses with prices starting at $25 per night, there are cheaper guesthouses where food is not included in the cost of housing, and more expensive hotels with prices starting at $50 per day.

What routes are there and their scheme

There are three main ski areas here - Didveli, Kokhta and Kokhta 2. The first zone is different great height above sea level - 2700 meters. From there it is possible not only to ride, but also to observe the surroundings from the panoramic platform. You can get there by funicular, so as not to climb on your own.

Mount Kokhta has a height of 2155 meters above sea level. In order to get to the top point, you need to use two chair lifts. At the top point there is an observation deck, which offers a good view of the ski routes and the Kokhta ridge.

Kokhta 2 has a height of 2269 meters at the top. Usually it causes confusion among those who came to this place for the first time, because it has other names - Tatra, Mitarbi. It is also equipped with an observation deck, which is worth doing nice pictures terrain.

Almost in the city there is a training zone - it is only 5 km from the center, and five minutes from it there is good hotel. Those who are only going to learn how to use a snowboard or ski should settle there, the reviews about this place are exceptionally good. The trails on this slope will be gentle and comfortable for learning. Children and adults, who have never skied before, study here on an equal footing. Each mountain convenient for skiing is necessarily marked on a special map, which is called a scheme. It is worth buying and seeing before setting off to conquer the almost Alpine mountains.

But Bakuriani is not only a ski area for those who are learning to ski. In Didveli, two tracks leave from the top point - one is red, and the second is black. They work until the summer season, as the snow melts there last. If tourists got there in April or early May, then there is still snow there. The red one is only steep in places, but in other parts it is quite convenient even for those who just started skiing or snowboarding a couple of years ago. The scheme also marks a black track on the map, which larger size and much steeper than the red one - only those who are confident in their abilities should go to this track.

From the intermediate station in Didveli there are two tracks - blue and red, both of which are good for those who want to see their strengths, but are not sure about them yet. They are great for all skiers. Kohta has three blue runs, each of which is great for those who plan to get on skis or snowboard and go down. The trails are not difficult. Trialeti or Kokhta 2 have in their arsenal two lifts and two blue slopes.

Rental prices

If you don’t want to carry snowboards and boots, then you should rent them at a local rental. Skis, boots and poles will cost 20 GEL until December 24 and 25 GEL after this date. These are rental points that are located near the ski lifts, which is very convenient. You can contact the point in Bakuriani itself, there are several rental points where such equipment will cost 15 GEL per day.

A snowboard and boots will cost the price of a set with skis and poles at 25 GEL in season and 20 GEL out of season. Rental points are located near each highway in Bakuriani. For those who take the full set, a mask and helmet are issued free of charge. You can also hire a snowboard instructor for 50 GEL per hour or 40 GEL for ski lessons. Cross-country skiing is not for rent, but there are no trails for them either.

Where delicious food

In Bakuriani itself there are several bakeries, cafes and restaurants where they cook well. The bakery sells fresh khachapuri and tortillas, the aroma of which spreads over several streets in the mountain air. There are also a couple of shops, the prices in which correspond to Tbilisi, as well as the assortment. There are no frills, but the prices are not too high either. Most vacationers prefer to eat where they stay.

Most hotels and guesthouses offer a modest but very nutritious buffet menu, especially in ski season. Breakfast is usually included in the price of the room, and for lunch and dinner you need to pay an average of 5 GEL. Sometimes these meals are free because the guest of the hotel eats. The reason for such generosity they call Georgian generosity and the fact that they are real Georgians. There are two cafes in Delvili - one at the lower station, and the second at the intermediate station. There are practically no first and second ones - they are guided by coffee, which costs 3 lari, and a variety of snacks.

Bakuriani is a place worth going to to see the main attractions of the ski resorts of Georgia. They don't go here sightseeing buses, so the people who are here are avid skiers and skiers, as well as those who have always wanted to learn how to ride. There are beautiful views and mountain clean air, which is diluted in some places with delicious fresh pastries. Reviews about Bakuriani are overwhelmingly good and enthusiastic, and almost every mountain is visible from the observation deck. This is a great ski for those who don't know where to start or want a quiet environment. There is no Tbilisi hustle and bustle here, but a lot of Georgian hospitality and a large selection of trails for every taste.
