The New Year holiday in Phuket (meaning Western, not Thai New Year -) is always a lot of fun, music and dancing. All events have strict localization - entertainment is organized for foreigners on the beaches of Patong and, and for locals - in. Moreover, the program is very different, one might even say radically.
The New Year begins on December 30 for tourists and the numbers 27-28 for Thais. The program of events for each day is similar to the previous one, with the exception of fireworks, which thunders throughout the island on the 31st. In our opinion, to see how the locals and farangs celebrate the New Year, it costs 28 or 29 to go to Phuket Town, and on the other days hang out in Patong and Karon.
New Year in Patong and Karon
It is no coincidence that these two beaches were chosen as the main venue for celebrations. Patong is the most popular resort islands, and Karon has large areas next to the beach. Plus, they come here from neighboring Kata Beach (it takes 10-20 minutes on foot, depending on where you live) and the number of tourists here can be more in NG than in all others.
The program of events can change every year, but usually a stage is set up in Patong, right on the coast, opposite. Thai singers perform there, national dances are shown. But in fact, there is a revival on all the streets, music rumbles from everywhere, the thunder of firecrackers is heard, every bar invites visitors to come to it. On the coast, luminous balls are launched into the sky. Everywhere reigns fun and a sea of drunken farangs.
New Year on Karon is strictly localized. The whole party is located in the central part of the beach. Several stages are set up on which open-air discos take place. Foreign DJs are invited to play their music from 8 pm to 2 am. Half-naked Thai girls in tight leather shorts are dancing on the stage, and numerous tourists are nearby.
There is also a foam party. A fence is installed right on the grass, two foam machines are placed in the center and the fun begins. Children really like it, so if you come to, then he will be very happy to run waist-deep in fines. Do not deny yourself this pleasure and adults.
It is better to come to the party early, ideally before sunset, because in the evening there are huge traffic jams and you can stand in them for an hour or two. Many hotels also host exciting events and a mandatory gala dinner. So you can first hang out in them, and then go to the beach for the continuation of the banquet. Or vice versa. Well, on December 31 at midnight, be sure to go outside, because a grandiose fireworks display is arranged for 15-20 minutes.
New Year in Phuket Town
In Phuket Town, they celebrate the New Year in a completely different way, a different atmosphere reigns here. Firstly, many prefer to pray on this day. In the evening, after 10 p.m., services and other festive events are held there. Secondly, there is no hard DJ music, only popular pop artists. Well, a lot of competitions and food.
The whole party traditionally takes place in Saphan Hin Park (see the map at the bottom of the page), which is in the southeast of Phuket Town. Usually events go on for more than a week - from December 27-28 to January 5-6. There are a lot of people, and all Thais, because foreigners do not even know about this place. Everywhere is full of tents with food, fruits, sweets. In Thai, all holidays are closely connected with the overeating, which is the most important point of the program. There is always a big stage where local celebrities sing. There are hundreds of tables near the stage where people sit, eat and watch the New Year's show.
And, of course, fun New Year's contests. For example, a win-win lottery. For 20 baht you are given a net, which you need to fish out a closed plastic box from the pond. There will be a sheet inside

But as soon as dreams come true, then many thoughts scatter into different sides, leaving a person alone with the problem: after all, where and how to celebrate the New Year? Those who have saved up money and are already considering tours to Thailand for the New Year will be able to compare what they prefer: frost or heat, Christmas trees or palm trees, Santa Claus in a fur coat or swimming trunks.
The people of Thailand are very tolerant of the holidays of other peoples and nations. They enjoy celebrating Halloween, Chinese New Year, and Valentine's Day. Therefore, do not believe the stories that the Thais celebrate the New Year only on April 13 (the traditional Thai New Year is Songkran). 5. This year in Sanam Chai Park (in Phuket City, opposite the Phuket Administration) there will be a concert with the participation of Thai and world stars, fireworks and, again, a countdown.
