We are used to thinking that other forms of life, if they exist anywhere, are only on other planets. American volcanologist Howard Sharp thought so too, at least until his trip to Alaska in 1997. Faced there with a very an unusual phenomenon he changed his mind.

Sharpe and his assistants watched the amazing boulder all night. At dawn, the steam from the stone no longer went, the sound died down and the movement almost stopped. Sharpe left for the camp and returned eight hours later. During this time, the boulder traveled a meter and a half, as evidenced by the footprint on the soil. The stone was almost cold and made no sound.
The study of an unusual object lasted two weeks. The stone moved, but the distances it covered in a day became shorter and shorter. The expedition's stay in Alaska was coming to an end, and Sharpe, before leaving, broke away from the stone a small piece for study. It turned out to be quite fragile, and several fragments separated from it on impact. At the same time, Sharpe took for comparison parts of the stones lying nearby.
Analyzes did not reveal any anomalies in the samples. The moving stone had pores and reddish streaks, but in general its structure was characteristic of stones that form in the bowels of the planet at high temperatures.
Another life
Sweeping away one after another all the versions that could explain the movement of the boulder, Sharpe came to the conclusion that in this case he was dealing with a qualitatively different form of life, namely, silicon-organic!

According to Sharpe, such organosilicon creatures have found a suitable habitat in the hot bowels of the planet, where they gradually evolve. Separate "silicon" individuals are brought to the surface from time to time as a result of volcanic activity, but at the top, apparently, they do not live long, freezing and becoming like ordinary stones.
If we accept Sharpe's hypothesis, then the fact that silicon creatures do not live long on the surface of the Earth can be argued. Known, for example, are the famous moving stones in California's Death Valley. The boulders on it - from three-meter blocks to the size of a soccer ball - move, like Sharpe's stone, leaving a mark on the soil. And this movement has been going on for hundreds of years.
It's not just the rocks from Death Valley that show signs of life. For several centuries, the legendary Blue Stone, located near the village of Gorodishche near Pereslavl-Za-Lessky, has been famous. In the 17th century, this boulder, which was the object of worship of the pagans, was thrown into a deep pit and covered with earth, but after several decades mysteriously peeked out from under the ground. The “floating” stone, discovered by divers near the coast of Paraguay, is also known. In the 50s of the last century, the remains of a Spanish galleon were discovered there. At that time it was not possible to examine it in detail, but it was compiled detailed map seabed at this location. Among other features of the underwater relief, a five-meter boulder embedded in the bottom was indicated on the map. When, after almost half a century, another expedition began to examine the galleon, its participants were quite surprised to find a depression in place of the boulder. At the same time, a large stone, not marked on the map, was located near the pit. After examining the stone and the hollow, the divers came to the conclusion that the stone is the same boulder with old map. For fifty years, in some incomprehensible way, he surfaced and moved several tens of meters.
Moving rocks have been discovered by American astronauts on the moon. Behind individual moon boulders, as well as behind the stones in Death Valley, furrows stretched, indicating that the boulders were moving. The most amazing thing is that some of the furrows were interrupted, and the very stone that left them was not in place, as if it soared into the air and flew away!
"Lagging" mind
All these and other findings suggest that silicon life is able to exist not only in the specific conditions of the earth's interior, but also on the surface of the planet and even in the absolute cold of outer space. This means that silicon-based life is much more widespread in the Universe than carbon-based life.
Both of these lives, so different from each other, evolved on Earth in parallel, but at different rates, which is why the results of their evolution vary greatly. Life on a carbon basis, having originated on our planet three and a half billion years ago, has by now given a reasonable being - man. Silicon life, having originated here, apparently, even earlier, is only at the very beginning of its path to reason. And this is explained primarily by the huge temporal difference in the course of life processes in the organisms of silicon creatures and
carbon. The long lifespan and the extreme slowness of the life of silicon significantly retard their evolution. During the time that hundreds, if not thousands of generations of carbon creatures were replaced, only one generation of silicon ones was replaced. As a result of such a tortoise evolutionary movement, the most "advanced" silicon individuals in their "intelligence" are now at best at the level of primitive worms.
Silicon creatures are so unusual that in our perception they are indistinguishable from ordinary stones. Even scientific methods, as shown by Sharpe's samples, fail to recognize their true nature. The fact that before us are not stones, but living beings, we can guess only by their behavior, for example, by movement.
Modern science denies the existence of silicon-based life on Earth. The scientists chose the cytochrome protein, which is synthesized by Rhodothermus Marinus bacteria living in the underwater hot springs of Iceland. They isolated the gene encoding this enzyme, propagated it, and subjected it to random mutations. The resulting DNA sequences were introduced into E. coli Escherichia coli. It has been established that some of the mutations in the active site of the enzyme led to the fact that the bacteria began to produce a protein capable of synthesizing organosilicon compounds. Actually, the legends about unauthorized “wandering” (“crawling (especially up the slope)”, “dancing”, “jumping”, “growing”, etc.) stones in many parts of the world are “innumerable”!
For example, Racetrack Playa is located in Death Valley, California. In Romania, the phenomenon of "trovants" - "growing" or "living stones" is known. The largest accumulation of growing stones was recorded in the Romanian county (region) of Valcea. On its territory there are trovants of various shapes, sizes and colors. In connection with the great interest of tourists, in 2006, the Valčina authorities in the village of Costesti created the only Trovant museum in the whole country under open sky. Its area is 1.1 hectares. The most unusual-looking growing stones from all over the area are collected on the territory of the museum. For a small fee, those who wish can view the exposition and purchase small samples as souvenirs. Many owners of souvenir stones claim that trovant memorabilia, when wet, begin to grow, and sometimes they move around the house without permission, which makes a rather creepy impression. They grow especially rapidly after rain: the stones increase in size due to the high content of various mineral salts under their shell, and when the surface gets wet, these chemical compounds begin to expand and press on the sand, causing the stone to “grow”. It happens like this: after the surface of the stone gets wet, a slight bulge appears on it. Over time, it grows, but when the weight of the new stone becomes large enough, it breaks off from the mother. The structure of the new trovants is the same as that of other, older stones. There is also a core inside, which is the main mystery for scientists. If the growth of the stone can somehow be explained from a scientific point of view, then the process of dividing the stone core defies any logic. In general, the process of reproduction of trovants resembles budding, which is why some experts seriously thought about the question of whether they are a hitherto unknown inorganic life form.
There is something similar in Russia, on the territory of the Kolpnyansky district Oryol region in the village of Andreevka and its environs, as if by magic, rounded stone blocks appear on the surface from underground. They can be seen in fields, gardens, near houses and in household plots.
Oryol growing stones look like sticky sand, but this is a deceptive fragility. In fact, these stones are very durable, and in order to break off even a small fragment from them, great efforts must be made. The sizes of the stones vary greatly. There are both small growing stones and huge blocks several meters long, resembling building slabs, in the vicinity of Andreevka. Growing stones are very popular with local residents. They are endowed with mystical properties, it is believed that boulders growing from underground are rich in the life-giving power of mother earth. Destruction of Kitezh
In 1238, the Mongols under the command of Batu Khan captured North-Eastern Russia. Having besieged the city of Vladimir and the surrounding cities, the khan learned about the powerful city of Kitezh and was determined to capture it.
First, the Mongols came to Small Kitezh. Grand Duke George rode out to meet them and entered into battle with them. But in the end he was forced to flee in the direction of Greater Kitezh, the location of which remained unknown to the Mongols.

Batu became furious and ordered the prisoners to be tortured until they gave out the location of Greater Kitezh. The captives did not betray the secret of their holy city, because, in their opinion, this would bring eternal damnation on themselves and their descendants. However, one of the captives named Kuterma could not stand the torture and revealed the secret paths to Lake Svetloyar.
Descriptions of further events in the annals are vague and ambiguous. “The only thing known is that the Grand Duke managed to hide church utensils in the lake, after which he fell in battle. By the will of God, the city itself became invisible; in its place, water and forest were visible, ”say Barker and Grant.

Legends of the invisible city
It is not clear what exactly happened to Kitezh, but for many centuries his mysterious disappearance was told in legends and folklore.
According to one popular tale, the whole city was plunged into the lake by the will of God to prevent its treasures from falling into the hands of the Mongols. Because of this, Lake Svetloyar is sometimes called Russian Atlantis. Legend has it that the army of the Golden Horde watched in dismay as the city plunged into the lake. The last thing they saw was the sparkling white dome of the cathedral with the cross.
But in fact, the disappearance of the city may not have been so remarkable. Some archaeologists have suggested that the city could have suffered from a landslide, which is why it fell into the lake.
According to folk tales, the city of Kitezh is visible only to those who are pure in heart and soul. Those who believe in these legends often report hearing church bells coming from the lake, seeing lights or even the outlines of buildings below the surface of the water.
In times past, pilgrims used to visit the lake hoping to hear the bells. They went there to pray and left offerings for the inhabitants of the city.
It is also said that during World War II women went to the lake to pray for their sons.
In search of Russian Atlantis
In 2011, an archaeological expedition was carried out to the village of Vetluzhsky in order to search for archaeological remains in the area of Lake Svetloyar. Excavations have revealed traces of an ancient settlement, as well as fragments of traditional Russian ceramics.
Scientists plan to continue their research. According to their estimates, the hill in which the artifacts were found has always been prone to landslides. Due to one of these landslides ancient city could well plunge into the lake, which gave rise to fantastic legends about the invisible city of Kitezh.
