A true work of contemporary art, Islamic-style skyscrapers are the most tall towers twins in the world, the symbol of Malaysia. All this is about the Petronas Towers, which are located in the capital of the country - Kuala Lumpur.

Made in the form of two cobs of corn, the Petronas Towers at the same time correspond to all the canons of Islamic architecture.

The skyscrapers were completed in 1998. The Petronas Towers, 452 meters high, have 88 floors, on which various offices, conference rooms are located, but tourists will be most interested, of course, in an art gallery or a concert hall. The art gallery presents both classical and contemporary art, there are expositions of traditional Malaysian costumes and crafts. The emphasis is on the work of local artists, but there are also works by international masters. In the concert hall of the Petronas Towers, called Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, the Malaysian Symphony Orchestra plays.

The Petronas Towers amaze with their magnificent views. Made in the form of two ears of corn, they at the same time correspond to all the canons of Islamic architecture: each building is an eight-pointed star - a symbol of integrity in Islam. Connects both towers glass bridge, which is called Sky Bridge. The bridge is located at a height of 170 meters, these are 41-42 floors. Here is equipped observation deck, the view from it is truly breathtaking.

The Petronas Towers are considered the tallest twins in the world.

The Petronas Towers are considered the tallest twins in the world, but for this the architects had to work hard. Initially, the towers in Chicago were the tallest, and the Petronas architects decided to increase the height of the towers with the help of spiers, which are made as a single unit with the entire structure. The Americans were forced to give the palm to Malaysia. Among all the skyscrapers in the world, the Petronas Towers rank fourth behind the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Taipei 101 and the Shanghai World Financial Center.

The Petronas Towers are loved not only by tourists, but also by the creators of computer games.

It is within the walls of these towers that the action takes place in games such as Hitman 2: Silent Assassin and Zero Tolerance.

Cinema has not been left out. Understudy Anastasia Zavorotnyuk in the film "The Apocalypse Code" jumps from the observation bridge, which is located between the two Petronas towers. The towers were lit up twice in the documentary "Life after people".

Features of the visit

According to rough estimates, more than three hundred people visit the Petronas Tower per day. This architectural marvel, unfortunately, cannot accommodate everyone, so tickets should be purchased in advance - best the day before, because otherwise a situation may arise that you stand in line for a good half of the day.

The staff serving tourists is very friendly, friendly, but at the same time unobtrusive. If you really need help, be sure - an employee of this tourist center will instantly come to your aid.

The Petronas Towers are open every day except Monday, from 9 am to 9 pm. Please note that on Friday there is a break from 13:00 to 14:30. The ticket offices of the towers open at 8:30.

A slightly different opening hours for the art gallery, located on the third floor in Suria KLCC. The art gallery is waiting for its visitors on any day except Monday, of course, from 10 am to 8 pm.

How to get there

There is a regular bus from Kuala Lumpur Airport to KL Sentral. Here you can transfer to the metro and get to the KLCC station.

If you also want to see the city itself, then it is better to take the monorail. You will need to get off at the Bukit Nanas station.

Address: Kuala Lumpur City Centre.

Malaysia is another Asian country where I really dreamed of going and, of course, taking a famous photo against the backdrop of the twin towers, which were once the tallest buildings in the world. Exactly this popular place, travelers arriving in Kuala Lumpur go there almost first of all. You can say that you have not been to Kuala Lumpur if you do not have such a photo. And I'm no exception to the rule.

To be honest, what else you can see in this city, I did not know until the very arrival there. It turned out to be something to look at. But you can read about other attractions.

Before coming to Kuala Lumpur, I imagined this city consisting of only skyscrapers, among which are the twin towers. But in reality, I saw that there are not so many skyscrapers, multi-storey buildings - yes, they are present, but perhaps not all of them can be called super-high.

The towers are really impressive, I saw them for the first time right from the hotel window. In general, they are visible from almost anywhere in the city. And what panoramas open at night are simply breathtaking!

I arrived in Malaysia in the evening, and it was already dark, so I went straight from the airport to the hotel. My room was located on a relatively high floor, so the view from the window was simply amazing! And thanks to such circumstances it was possible to make interesting photos graphics on the background of the towers. The next day it was decided to go directly to them and study everything in more detail.

What is the Petronas skyscraper in Malaysia?

Why twin towers and why Petronas? This question popped into my head.

It turned out that they are named after the state oil company Petronas, which decided to overtake America and build the world's tallest skyscraper. And they did it. Towers were erected from 1992 to 1996. As a result, Petronas were recognized as the tallest building in the world, moving the Chicago skyscraper Sea Tower from the first line.

The height of the twin towers was 451.9 meters or 88 floors. But already in 2003, they lost their championship to Taipei 101 in Taiwan.

The two towers were built by two different companies is said to improve performance. And due to the fact that the soil in this place turned out to be soft, the piles were driven in more than 100 meters. The result was the deepest concrete foundation in the world. The towers house offices, a theatre, an art gallery, concert hall, cafes and restaurants, as well as a shopping center. And work in them, imagine, more than ten thousand people. Broken at the foot beautiful park with fountains and pools, which is very nice to walk around and take a photo.

On the 86th floor there is an observation deck, and on the 42nd floor the two buildings are connected by a covered bridge. This bridge, by the way, is also the highest in the world.

How to get to the Petronas Twin Towers

I found out that the towers are located in the KLCC area (see on the map), and there are several ways to get there:

  • If you live in the nearest area, then you can walk, just follow the direction to the towers. I noticed very few pedestrians on the streets, maybe because it is too hot, maybe because the roads are practically not provided for them.
  • Get there by taxi. Catch a car, ask to turn on the meter, explain that you want to see the towers. Such a trip will cost about $4 or RM15 (depending on your location and time of day). And it is also desirable that the Internet and a navigator work for you, which will show the nearest route to the towers, otherwise Asian drivers can take you around the city with a breeze in order to increase the meter reading.

  • get there public transport. The nearest metro station, KLCC, is a 5-minute walk from the towers.

  • The nearest monorail station, Bukit Nanas Monorail, is a bit further away and is a 15-minute walk away.

  • Well, if you have connecting flight, and you only have a day to see the towers, then go there directly from the airport either by taxi or metro if it's not night. To do this, you need to take the KLIA Express from the airport, which will take you to the KL Sentral station in a little less than 30 minutes and for about $ 10 (38 ringgit). There, change to the Kelana Jaya metro line and follow to the KLCC station, then walk 5 minutes and you are there.

For myself, I chose a taxi. True, on the way the driver managed to show me a catalog with excursions and offer his services in the near future. This was not part of my plans, so I politely thanked him and left right at the foot of the twin towers.

And here I stand and think... Is it worth it for me to climb them or can I just walk around and take interesting photos, because I saw the giants themselves from the window of my hotel, and it really pleased me, but what will I see from the towers themselves?

Opening hours and cost of attendance

An hourly visit to the Petronas Towers in Malaysia costs 85 ringgit - about $ 20, depending on the current exchange rate.

You can buy tickets at the box office or on the official website. There, on the website, you can find out in detail the hours and days of the visit. They go upstairs in groups: first on transparent bridge and then to the 86th floor of the tower. They work for visiting tourists daily from 9.00 to 21.00, excluding Mondays.

Of course, it is worth visiting the towers, but as for climbing the observation deck and the bridge, maybe not. Here everyone makes a decision for himself. Previously, it was free, you just had to come early and stand in line for a couple of hours. And now the rise costs $ 20, and you can’t do without queues. Therefore, I decided that I would not climb, and went to explore the area around.

A wonderful garden at the Petronas Towers or how to take a super photo

And around there is a tropical garden where you can rest in the shade of vegetation and make beautiful pictures which is what I decided to do.

This park contains almost 2000 unique species plants from all over the world, there are sculptures, bridges, fountains, a lake and walking areas. Well, if you want to take good photos of the towers, then you can’t do without visiting the park. Here are the best places to shoot.

Moving along the paths, you will meet signs along the way indicating that you can take a great shot from this angle. There are more than 10 of them, so a walk through the park took me about an hour. And I even sat down to rest in one of the arbors in the shade.

By the way, the park has free toilets in excellent condition. If you are visiting Kuala Lumpur with children, then walking through this oasis will give you great pleasure, because for the little guests there is even a pool with a waterfall.

Entrance to the park is free.

Where to eat near the Petronas Towers and hide from the sweltering heat

After I walked around the park and took photos from all angles against the backdrop of the famous twin towers, I was honestly tired and realized that I needed to cool down in an air-conditioned room. And the best decision was to go to the shopping Suria Center KLCC located between the towers.

On the lowest floor there is a Foodmarket supermarket and various cafes, where I enjoyed a bite of sushi at a reasonable price of about $ 5. There is a good food court on the third floor. Also on the territory of the shopping center are a cinema, a concert hall and an art gallery.

On the first floor there are boutiques of world famous brands, including Chanel, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and so on; on the second and third floors there are shops of more democratic brands Mango, Benetton and others. Even if you don't intend to shop, Suria KLCC is still worth a visit, the center is striking in its beauty, as well as a great opportunity to eat and cool off a bit.

See the twin towers at night

It seemed to me that a day trip to the twin towers was not enough, and I decided to go there late in the evening to see all the beauty in a different color. And it really was worth it!

A the best place to view all the details, became the famous Sky Bar. It is located on the 33rd floor of the Traders Hotel, which is next to the park.

The bar offers a breathtaking panorama of the whole of Kuala Lumpur and, of course, the twin towers.

The highlight of the SkyBar is the illuminated pool surrounded by comfortable sofas: the perfect place for a romantic evening or for those who love to party. I belong to the latter, so I enjoyed spending half the night there.

***

Summing up my trip to Malaysia, I can say that it was a success. And another dream came true. And, of course, the famous photo with the twin towers in the background appeared in my collection!

I spent a wonderful time in Kuala Lumpur, visited many interesting places have great memories of this city. But still, the most important place to visit, which I was especially impressed with, is undoubtedly the Petronas Twin Towers!

The skyscrapers of the United States of America have long held the status of the tallest buildings in the world. But the construction of 1998 in the Malaysian capital put an end to these established traditions - the highest at that time were the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur.

History of the construction of the Petronas Towers in numbers

Active construction of skyscrapers in South-East Asia began in the late 1980s. In 1992, the 88-story twin towers were laid for the Malaysian oil company Petronas. This glass, concrete and steel building was designed by Ranhill Bersecutu and Thornton Tomasetti. During the study of the area, it turned out that different soil is located under the towers, which would cause a drawdown of one of the towers. Therefore, it was decided to move them 60 meters and drive piles 100 meters, making it the largest foundation in the world.

The built Petronas skyscraper reflected the rapid growth of a country that grew up on oil. Its construction cost $800 million. The two twin towers are just over 450 meters high (451.9). In plan, the building has an octagonal star symbol of Islam. This was facilitated by the participation of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, who wants to build a building in the style of Islam. Both buildings are connected by an air bridge at the 42nd floor level. The bridge provides not only fire safety, but also affects the overall reliability of the building, already designed at a high level.

Air bridge

A huge amount of steel went into the construction of the Petronas Tower - 36,910 tons. Due to the use of materials only from Malaysia, it was necessary to try to replace the steel with new elastic concrete, which was successfully produced here for the new high-rise. The building has underground parking for 4500 cars. The building is equipped with high-speed elevators, so it takes only 90 seconds to get to the top floor. For the elevator due to limited space was used interesting scheme- the elevators themselves are two-story, respectively, one of them stops only on even floors, and the other on odd ones.

View from the observation deck

The building, in addition to office space, contains shops, an oil museum, a conference hall and even a mosque. And on the 86th floor there is an observation deck. Windows create an amazing view - there are 32,000 of them here. It takes about a month of continuous work to completely clean them.

Petronas Towers in disputes for the high-altitude championship

After construction, this skyscraper immediately took the line of the most high building in the world, but in fact, many questions have arisen on this issue. The main competitor, Willis Tower, lost only 9 meters to the twins from Malaysia in terms of the absolute height of architectural spiers. But in terms of net floor height, the situation is exactly the opposite - a skyscraper from Chicago is ahead of them by 70 meters.

Skyscrapers are an American invention. However, in the context of the economic boom, the construction of multi-storey buildings is growing. A huge 88-storey skyscraper with a height of 452 meters is located in the capital of Malaysia - these are the famous twin towers Petronas Towers, which for a long time were considered the largest skyscraper on our planet. The Petronas Twin Towers makes a big impression, which has become “ calling card» . Rising above the city, the towers symbolize the current one, striving to enter the number.

The most respectable center of Malaysia, the so-called Golden Triangle shopping center, was chosen for the construction of the skyscraper. This area is famous for skyscrapers, shopping malls, luxury hotels and chic restaurants.

The construction of "Petronas Towers" cost the main customer - the state corporation "Petronas" - 800 million dollars. Some of the costs were borne by other Malaysian firms, who shared office space between the two skyscrapers.

We put the towers in a record short term- in less than three years (they were laid down in May 1993, and officially opened on May 8, 1998). In January 2000, all office space was already occupied.

One tower was built by a consortium of Hazama and Mitsubishi, as well as the American J.A. Jones Construction. The second tower is a consortium of South Korean companies Samsung Engineering and Construction, Kok Engineering and Construction and one Malaysian company.

The grandiose construction belongs to the National Oil Corporation, part of the project to create the "City of the New Millennium" in Malaysia. It is said that its whimsical "twin" design was inspired by the Grand Arch of the Parisian La Defense. The towers resemble two rockets shot up, connected by a two-story bridge, lying 160 meters from the ground.

The walls to the very top are made of tempered durable glass and thin metal lintels. During the day, the towers sparkle in the sun like a huge diamond set in silver. At night - they soar above the city, rushing with luminous rockets into the swampy blackness of the sky. Their needle-spiers are visible for tens of kilometers outside the city limits.

Each tower rests on a multi-meter thick slab of high-strength concrete with a volume of 13,200 cubic meters and a weight of more than 32,000 tons, which in turn rests on 104 piles, going to a depth of 60 to 115 meters. The frame of the towers required 160 thousand cubic meters, concrete of special strength and 37 thousand tons of steel, which allows the towers to withstand tremors with a force of up to 7 points and a speed of 45 m / s, although no significant and.

Both towers are connected by a covered walkway in the form of a bridge. The building is crowned with 73.5-meter turrets. These towers were completed after it became clear that the new skyscraper was inferior to the tallest building in Chicago at that time by only 65 meters. After the towers were built on, the Petronas Towers became the tallest. Until recently, this title belonged to the Malaysian building, however, in 2004, the record was broken by the Taipei 101 skyscraper.

The area of all premises of the building is 213.75 thousand square meters (these are 48 football fields). The towers represent 452 meters of glass and steel. The towers themselves occupy 40 hectares. The Petronas Towers are offices, exhibition and conference rooms, an art gallery, a theater, a concert hall where the Malaysian symphony orchestra performs, restaurants, as well as the most important shopping center in Kuala Lumpur. In the silhouette of sharply honed towers, with all the unbridled hi-tech, hints of national architecture. Inside the towers is still more dynamic. Huge atriums culminate in steel structures a la space stations, glass elevators gliding past glass escalators.

The upper floors of the buildings are occupied by offices. On the lower floors there is a six-story shopping center, restaurants, cinemas, a huge concert hall of the Malay Philharmonic Orchestra, galleries, museums, exhibition halls and even science Center with virtual attractions for children and adults.

But the main attraction is the skyscraper itself. At the level of the 41st floor, there is a lintel between the towers, a glass bridge. It is open to the public from 10:00 am to 12:45 pm and from 3:00 pm to 4:45 pm, admission is free. The bridge offers a great view of the entire city of Kuala Lumpur.

The Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur () is perhaps the same symbol of Malaysia as the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square in Russia. Initially, we planned to devote only a couple of hours to the famous twins, but somehow we imperceptibly spent the whole day there. So what were we doing there?

Firstly, we admired the famous towers. We have already written more than once that we like to find something of the very best, here is the Petronas just from this series.

Judge for yourself: height 451.9 meters. The ninth tallest building in Asia, and until 2003 the tallest building in general. Until last year, it was the 8th, but another Chinese skyscraper pressed the positions of the Petronas. By the way, in China the most a large number of– 43 buildings over 300 meters. Tenth tallest building in the world. The tallest twin towers in the world today. Such an impressive list of "coolness".

Near the towers there is a small cozy park With artificial lake, playgrounds, swimming pools, jogging tracks and marked points from which the most interesting view of the Petronas opens.

The twins in the area of the 41st-42nd floors are connected by a bridge skybridge, which, if desired, you can climb. Entrance ticket costs 85 ringgit(approximately 1360 rubles). Opening hours from 9:00 before 21:00 daily except Monday. The bridge is closed on Fridays 13:00 before 14:30 due to prayer (Malaysia is a Muslim country).

Tickets at the box office start selling from 8:30 , but it is possible and more convenient to buy them in advance at www.petronastwintowers.com.my. But even with online tickets to get on skybridge it will be very problematic - the queue is gigantic, albeit perfectly organized.

We thought that we were absolutely not eager to spend time on this, we decided to devote it to the huge shopping center in Petronas. This is one of the coolest shopping centers in Kuala Lumpur. And after almost a year spent in the Indian and Nepalese town-villages, he makes a stunning impression. Food courts, restaurants, shops, science and entertainment complex - we were sucked in ☺.

Despite all the pathos, most of the stores turned out to be more than affordable. And the prices in some of them are lower than in Russia or Thailand. Shoooping! ☺

It's amazing how different the impression that the towers make in daylight and evening light is. During the day they seem just high, and at night - monumental and majestic.

Seeing the Petronas Towers at night is a must do in Kuala Lumpur.

And besides this, in the evening you can watch a rather colorful, but short light and music show of fountains. It starts in the area 20:00 , but there is no more accurate information, as soon as it gets dark enough, this is how ☺ begins.

Many locals come to the fountains with food and impromptu picnics to the accompaniment of the fountain's romantic melodies.

And finally, a little additional information about how to go and what else you can do in the Petronosov area.

How to get to the Petronas Twin Towers: take the metro and go to the station KLCC automatic line Kelana Jaya. You can also get to the station. Ruja Chulan monorail line, then along the covered galleries about 700 meters and you are there. Read more about transport in Kuala Lumpur.

Other things to do in the KLCC area:

1. Visit one of the coolest aquariums Aquaria KLCC, if not all over the world, then in Asia for sure.

  • Ticket price for an adult: 64 ringgit(about 1025 rubles);
  • Operating mode: with 10:00 before 20:00 , the latest visitors are launched in 19:00 ;
  • Website: aquariaklcc.com

2. In the evening, when the Petronases get bored, take a walk to the street Jalan P. Ramlee and have a good time there in local bars and clubs, because Kula Lumpur is a city that never sleeps ☺.
