Part 4. Five states in one day.
Connecticut - Rhode Island - Massachusetts - New Hampshire - Maine
The morning was gloomy, like the state of Connecticut itself. After warming up, I wandered around the motel parking lot. Considered different numbers of cars. Americans travel extensively throughout their country. Lots of different state numbers.
2. A quiet gloomy morning only emphasized the greatness of the ocean. The Atlantic froze.
3. Quiet, calm. You can sit and enjoy the tranquility.
4. And if you close your eyes, you can imagine the smell sea water, and the cries of seagulls, and the rustle of oncoming waves.
5. To live in such a house on the ocean!
6. It turns out and on east coast there is road number 1. It is completely local and leads through endless towns flowing one into another. Most of the time you can't see the ocean. But there are also great views.
7. A lot of flags. Even where they seem to be useless. Behind me is a marina with a bunch of beautiful boats and yachts.
8. Well, it's time for breakfast. One of the towns seemed cozy to me. I slowed down the speed, although it is already so low in the towns and everyone goes on foot, and began to look out for Dinernaya. Apparently there was some kind of holiday here recently.
9. Sat down in a pleasant cafe, was almost the first. Locals at this time began to pull themselves up for breakfast.
10. Guys, this was the pinnacle of all breakfasts on my journey! Five! Five different dishes in one plate. Let's start clockwise: bacon, fried potatoes, small fried patty, scrambled eggs and a giant pancake! Ice water was also served, a large mug of coffee and for the first time in my life I tried maple syrup. And this despite the fact that, in principle, you don’t choose anything, but simply ask for breakfast, it’s not expensive.

13. There are sights here, but it didn’t seem cozy to me. Maybe the weather is to blame. As in every US park, there are a lot of funny squirrels that are not afraid of people.
14. So, having outlined the route on the navigator, I went with a brave step wherever my eyes looked. Along the way, there are some interesting characters. This guide tells how people in New England were brought to the revolution and why the tea was drowned.

16. The same famous seven-meter bronze fountain and the same famous old church. Somewhere here begins the Freedom Trail - the Freedom Trail leading through the sights of the revolutionary city. But I only found out about it now! Okay, I don't think I've lost anything.
17. Boston has a lot pedestrian streets, old paving stones, European architecture. Such cozy city for quiet leisurely walks. I'm talking about the center.
18. Each state has its own coloring of police cars. Photographed them everywhere. In Boston, the cops love retro cars.
19. Went to Port Point Channel. It was here that Bostonians had their famous Boston Tea Party. There is also a museum nearby, right in the middle of the canal.
20. The entire waterfront of old Boston is torn apart by marinas. The sidewalks go around these man-made little coves, so you have to walk twice as much. But it's worth it - very nice and not crowded.

24. Here it is! First lobster on my way! Such a joyful one. It turned out that this is a shop selling fresh seafood. So I didn't eat lobster. Yes, and this is not the state of Maine, but just some kind of Massachusetts. Instead, he went to warm himself in a beer restaurant and met a Russian couple. They were visiting in Boston. They gave me the correct target designation - where to go next, and I turned off the embankment into the center.

27. Wandering through them, I came across a fountain-bowl into which tourists throw coins. Stole a Canadian coin from there as a keepsake.

29. Then I wandered into a butcher shop. Where all the walls were covered with banknotes different countries. I gave my uncle a thousand, there were no others. And he immediately found a place for her.
30. It's time to say goodbye to Boston. I give an excerpt from my instagram about Boston, then hot impressions: “The town is quiet, cultured. I’m sitting on a bench, I’m thinking of getting to Maine today in the dark, and sleeping! Boston is seagulls on lawns, a minimum of black ones, marinas with yachts and emerging eateries with lobsters and the cry of seagulls..."

32. And I continued to rush to the north. And drove to the town of York, Maine. It was already evening and I decided to look for a lodging for the night. The coastline of this town turned out to be very picturesque. A long beach, a road along it, and motels interspersed with private houses across the road. And at the end of the beach there is a lighthouse called Nubl Light. The beauty is not real. True, the lighthouse is not visible in the photo, it is very small.
33. As I jumped out onto this road, I immediately decided to stop and admire. I look at the cars. He came out and asked me to take a picture of me against the backdrop of the lighthouse. Live of course steeper a hundred times. But feelings overflowed!
34. By the time I got to the lighthouse, it was already completely dark. Well, the phone and night photos are practically incompatible.
35. Returned from the lighthouse to Long Beach and found a great motel overlooking the ocean. Checked in around 8pm. And I want to eat well, just horror. Especially in front of the motel, right on the beach, I noticed a restaurant that turned out to be the only one on this long beach.
I go there. There is no one on the street. The restaurant is already closed, and is open until 20:00! Until eight in the evening! Charles! As I did not beg to feed me, the staff only shrugged, smiled and said no sir, closs, sorry. As usual, I blew at the reception. I say I came to eat lobsters, well, give them to me here. The aunts explained to me that after eight it would not be possible to eat here. Only if you walk a kilometer to another hotel that supposedly has a restaurant. Class. Having received the direction, I blew to the mythical hotel. And I must say that the street is dark and not souls. I walk in one direction for a long time, I don’t see anything. Went back, only late runners, rare. The ocean raged, the waves rose and it became quite creepy to walk alone in the dark. Only rare lanterns, and windows of houses across the road. And the body, though under stress, but give it to eat. And suddenly I look ahead of the headlights of a car, and the police are flashing behind it. The car is equal to me, passes a little and presses against the side of the road. A police car pulls up behind. At the same time, a brilliant idea comes to my mind! You need to ask the policeman where you can eat here, at least something, because there is no time for lobsters.
I return to the police car and stand at the level of its trunk and see that the policeman went to check the documents to the car in front. I am relaxed, smoking and at the same time picking up words in my meager vocabulary for a conversation with a policeman. I see he finished, turned to his car and went to meet me, blinded by the headlights of his car. Those. At that moment he did not see me.
Then everything happened in one second, I will write longer.
As soon as the policeman began to approach the hood of his car, I gave out something like “Helo sir” in a brave Russian accent! He, not expecting such a set-up that someone is rubbing around his car in the night, while he is blinded and does not see anything, jumps like a cat. His hand rushed to the holster, and he, diving behind the car, puts his free hand forward and starts yelling. I didn't need a translation! He shouted: "Sir, stay where you are and don't move!" I almost freaked out in surprise! I think a friend in uniform too. I stood rooted to the spot and did not understand where to put my hands. Toli lower, roofing felts raise.
Well, in short, he shot me!
Joke! Didn't shoot. Sideways, sideways defending himself with the car, he assessed the situation, went out behind the car and asked what I needed. I confusedly explained to the officer that nothing was needed anymore. So eat lobster. He pointed somewhere two kilometers away with his finger, and said that there was a store. And drove off with a hoot.
Then I stomped for another half an hour until I reached the store that was closing at ten o'clock. Two guys, sellers, took pity on me and scraped the remains of burritos from some tray, found the last two buns. The guys were so kind that they warmed up this dish and even gave a spoon. I bought beer and real American lace and stomped home!
36. This is how I ended this long day alive and well-fed! Lying on a bed in a motel, watching basketball, drinking beer and chewing awesome chips. We don't have those!
The Åland Islands have a long tradition of caring for travelers. Inns were located along the old postal road, where tired travelers could sleep and refresh themselves. Today's visitors move much faster, and the choice of places to stay along the way is more diverse.
Most of the hotels are in Mariehamn, but some are located in the countryside and in the archipelago: two four-star hotels in the Åland Islands - Havsvidden in Gjeta and Silverskär in Saltvik, as well as several three- and two-star hotels, such as Bastö in Finström, Elvira in Ekerö or Gullviva on Brando. The Smakbyn Hotel in Sund is planned.
There are some very good and unique hotels and bed and breakfasts in the Åland Islands. Among the hotels in a historic setting is the Hotel Enigheten in an old courthouse and 18th-century inn in the settlement of Degerby on Föglö. You can also experience the atmosphere of antiquity combined with modern comfort at the hotels Björnhufvud in Ekero, Kvarnbo in Saltvik and Amalia in Lemland.
Hotel Kvarnbo, built in the 80s of the XIX century, has interesting story. The hotel is located opposite the Saltviks kirka church, and modern archaeologists believe that there was major center trade during the Early Iron Age and the Viking Age 500-1000 AD. When the future owners of the hotel, Ella and Martin, bought their relative's old house, it was in a very bad state.
Today, the main part of the house with an area of 540 sq.m has been completely restored. The kitchen, dining room and eight large rooms have been carefully renovated. The interiors and colors are consistent with the building's era, although it is equipped with all modern amenities - every room has a toilet and shower.
The main idea was that guests not only spend time here, but could enjoy it. Guests sit and talk for a long time in the evenings on the veranda or in the dining room by the fireplace.
Ella is a sommelier who organizes beer, wine and champagne tastings. All equipment is locally produced. The tasting of the oldest champagne in the world, found in the wreck of a ship that sank in Åland in 2010, caused the strongest taste impressions.
Ella's other passion is music. Musical events are organized here every summer. Also worth seeing is the fully stocked early 20th workshop, which has a bar, pinball and old bikes that Martin restores.

Day 1 Arrival to Sakhalin
You will be met at the airport of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and taken to the hotel. Once settled in, you will have lunch at the Japanese restaurant NIHON MITAI with national cuisine and fresh seafood.
Then go to sightseeing tour by the city. Visit ski resort"Mountain Air", from where a beautiful view of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and the entire Susunai Valley, surrounded by hills and ridges, opens up.
Back at the hotel, you will have dinner on your own. If you wish, go to the Korean baths and arrange an evening rest for yourself.
Day 2 Lake Lagoon Busse
After breakfast, a two-hour journey by jeep or minibus awaits you to the lake-lagoon Busse. Along the way, in Aniva Bay, you will see Russia's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant, an oil export terminal and Russia's first Prigorodnoye port, built specifically to service oil tankers and LNG carriers.
Upon arrival - acquaintance with the lake. Busse is a lagoonal brackish lake connected by a channel to Aniva Bay. Crabs abound here, giant oysters, trepangs, sea urchins, trumpeter, scallops, shrimp, spizula and maktra shells, anfeltia red algae, many types of fish (pink salmon, herring, chum salmon, saffron cod, smelt, taimen and others).
You will be standing on an island made of oysters! At low tide, you can enjoy the taste of fresh delicacies, lifting them from under your feet. For lunch and dinner, try freshly caught seafood and Far Eastern delicacies. On the lake will be organized camping with kitchen, bathroom. In the evening you will meet the crew of the catamaran and spend the night in tents.
Day 3 Cape Aniva and lighthouse. Cape Marble
Breakfast is waiting for you, then preparing for the cruise and boarding the ship. You will walk 60 km along coastline, heading for Cape Aniva - one of the most beautiful and hard-to-reach places Sakhalin. You will be met by sheer and polished rocks, almost never abating waves at the junction of two seas, foaming on rocky shallows, tireless gulls and shy seals.
Near the cape there is a rock Sivuchya, on which the Japanese lighthouse Naka-Siretoko Misaki is located. The 31-meter impregnable tower of the lighthouse seems to be a natural extension of the rock.
Then you will overcome 14 km of the way and find yourself on Marble Cape - a huge white block rising from the sea with freckles of green moss. Dine and stay overnight.
Day 4 Crossing Aniva Bay
After breakfast, you will have a long crossing (about 120 km): you will cross the Aniva Bay and from the Tonino-Aniva Peninsula you will get to the Crillon Peninsula. Lunch will take place on the ship.
You will arrive at Cape Crillon - the most south point Sakhalin Islands and a real miracle of nature - a cape open to all winds. It is washed on three sides by different waters: from the west - the Tatar Strait, from the east - Aniva Bay, from the south - the La Perouse Strait, which separates Sakhalin and Japan, which is 43 km from here and 43 km from Japan. good weather she is perfectly visible.
After setting up the camp, you will rest, have dinner and spend the night in tents.
Day 5 Cape Crillon
After breakfast, you will continue your acquaintance with Cape Crillon. An old Russian signal cannon has been preserved on it, a weather station is operating, and a functioning lighthouse is located. Pacific Fleet and military unit. The fierce liberation battles of 1945 took place here. The cape was a serious fortified object - you will find a large number of pillboxes, trenches, tanks and cannons, as well as an underground fortified city.
In the camp you will have lunch, dinner and overnight in tents.
Day 6 Cape Kuznetsov. Tatar Strait
You will have breakfast and go on a short hike to Cape Kuznetsov (20 km), located on the southwestern coast of the Crillon Peninsula. There is a year-round rookery of red-listed sea lions and seals, large colonies of cormorants, gulls, guillemots. You can see a hawk, a falcon, a white heron and a Japanese crane.
From Cape Kuznetsov to the north, 8 km along the coast is Cape Windis. It is crowned with a cake-like mountain Kovrizhka with sheer cliffs (the height of the mountain is 78 m). It is assumed that it is absolutely flat and high peak Ainu used as a refuge, fleeing from strangers.
To the south of Cape Kuznetsov, only 2 km away is Cape Zamirailova Golova. This ten-kilometer section of the southwestern coast of the peninsula is the most landscaped - bizarre rock outcrops, "devil's fingers", stone arches, "aquariums", severe sheer walls and alluring sea terraces.
In the evening you will have dinner and overnight in tents.
Day 7 Moneron Island. Sea passage to Nevelsk
You will get up early and have breakfast. Then you will go to Moneron (60 km) - small island in the waters of the Tatar Strait, an extinct volcano 2 million years old. This is a real pearl in the island necklace of the Sakhalin coast, the state nature reserve and border zone.
The main wealth of the island is marine flora and fauna. High water transparency up to 40 m and the impact of the warm Tsushima current, which raises the temperature of coastal waters up to 20 degrees, form unique underwater landscapes and determine the existence of especially rare species of underwater fauna. On the coastal reefs there are rookeries of large marine mammals (sea lions, spotted seals, seals), and on the islands near the coast there are many bird colonies.
Ancient people used Moneron as a sanctuary. The Japanese, on the contrary, provided the island with a complete infrastructure - a road, a pier, a lighthouse, a weather station and even a telephone line. They cultivated the fields, planted rice and planted orchards.
You will have a tour of the island and lunch. Further - a sea crossing to the city of Nevelsk (70 km). Upon arrival, you will be met at the pier and taken to the base (5 km). You go to the bathhouse and have dinner. Stay overnight in the cabins.
Day 8 Bridges Devil and Witch. Japanese Railway. Tunnels
After breakfast you will drive to the city of Kholmsk (47 km). The path will go through federal highway, with stops at observation deck from where it opens beautiful view to the Kholmsky Pass and the Tatar Strait. Close to st. Nikolaychuk, you leave the cars and walk about 5-6 km to the Devil's Bridge.
This unique railway and historical object of Sakhalin was built by the Japanese in 1928. At one time, the bridge was known throughout Japan due to its unusual design.
You will have lunch (dry rations) on the route. Then we have to move to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (90 km). Upon arrival, you will check into your hotel and have dinner on your own.
Day 9 Reserve day
This day is reserved in case of bad weather. After breakfast, which will take place in the hotel restaurant, you can organize an additional excursion, visit fish market, souvenir shops or the Sakhalin Museum of Local Lore.
Lunch and dinner will be on your own.
Day 10 Homecoming
Breakfast is waiting for you in the hotel restaurant. This will be followed by a transfer to the airport, from where you will return to Moscow.
