What is interesting in Bali. Unusual places in Bali or where else can a sophisticated tourist go

Hello friends! With this article, I open a series of articles What to see for a tourist in Bali.

We receive a lot of questions, letters, orders for routes in Bali, from tourists and travelers who go to Paradise Island Gods for 1-3 weeks, so our first column was not chosen by chance, and it concerns entertainment.

After all, this is (among other things) of interest to those who escaped on their long-awaited vacation - to find out where to ride an elephant, find out where to go in the evening, try water attractions, go on a safari, appreciate local rafting, etc.

We already have separate articles for each item, and I see other travelers periodically following in our footsteps - bloggers, expats, but as it turned out, for a typical tourist, who has an average of only 2 weeks for a trip, it is not at all easy to re-read our mountains of materials on Bali and decide where he definitely needs to go, and what can be excluded.

So, quite recently we talked with friends who were going on vacation in Bali, the guys asked us questions, despite the fact that they saw our blog and know that everything is there, but it turned out that it’s not so easy to figure everything out .

It was me, naive, who thought that you open the Bali tab, and immediately everything becomes clear)) we traveled the whole island, we imagine where it is, naturally we are guided by the names of districts, towns and villages, we know what and how, but the reader does not familiar with the island, only sees a lot of incomprehensible names and does not know what to take on, in general, really - the devil will break his leg))

So we have a lot of ideas, but I decided to take the first steps in systematizing information on Bali by combining articles with one common theme. So let's get started!

The most popular tourist attractions in Bali.

Perhaps every tourist, going to the tropics, certainly wants to “make friends” with an elephant - just stroke, ride, feed bamboo or bathe a huge gray good man, watch how they draw, play basketball and even dance 🙂

All this, of course, can be done in Bali, where elephants live in parks, where they are looked after, fed, and washed. Basically, all elephants were brought from the huge Indonesian island of Sumatra. We have already seen elephants before Bali more than once, as in wild nature in India, and rode them on elephant farms, but this time both were delighted, once again, surrounded by gray giants with the kindest eyes

Where to find Elephant Safari Park, how much does an elephant safari cost or just a walk with elephants hugging, what is the best way to feed them, and how to get to a fun elephant show, in general, all useful information about Elephant Safari Park can be found in our detailed colorful article:

Elephant Safari Park is not the only Elephant Park in Bali, we also visited another, less popular park, as another blog tells interesting article, replete with numerous unusual facts about elephants. Also, it was in this park that we had seen enough of the morning rituals of elephants, including funny ones. water procedures little elephants in the pond

Read about all this, as well as how to be in the elephant park absolutely free, read here:

Water activities in Tanjung Benoa

These entertainments are a favorite among both children and adults, and these are far from one-time entertainment. If it is enough to ride an elephant or a camel 1-2 times in a lifetime, then many people want to experience a storm of emotions from water “rides” on every vacation, regardless of the country.

It is the Tanjung Benoa beach area, which is very close to the popular one, that is famous for its variety of water attractions. Everything is here - water cheesecakes and parachutes, bananas and flying fish, kayaking, wakeboarding and windsurfing,

and of course, jet skis

Seawalker - underwater walks

Yes, yes, in Bali there is a unique opportunity to walk along the seabed, you heard right to take a walk, this is not about diving or snorkeling, but about Seawalker tours!

Put on a 37-kilogram spacesuit on your head, descend to a depth of 5 m, where you find yourself surrounded by marine life, mostly colorful tropical fish! Alas, the photo does not convey the sensations and beauty of the underwater kingdom

You can feed the fish, take pictures with them, try to catch them, just walk around and wonder how such a huge spacesuit is not felt at all on your head, and why water does not penetrate inside 🙂

There are 2 points in Bali where you can take such walks: in Tanjung Benoa and near the island of Lembongan (20 minutes from Bali by boat).
Detailed article about seawalker with prices and our impressions:

Submarine diving

Another interesting activity in Bali is diving in a submarine. It descends 45 meters or more under water, which makes it possible to see at depth what is usually only available to divers. Well, the fact of walking on a submarine and taking a selfie against its background already deserves attention.

Diving and snorkeling in Tulamben and Menjangan

Diving in Bali is wonderful, in principle, you can not describe anything further, just put an end to it))

There are gorgeous coral gardens here, rare species of fish, turtles, stingrays can be found underwater. The main diving sites are Tulamben with Amed and Menjangan.
Of the interesting things - in Tulamben there is a sunken ship Liberty, we dived to it even without equipment, if there are no waves, then the water is clear and visibility is excellent, but of course, it’s much more interesting to sink to the very bottom of the ship, climb inside, you can’t do without scuba gear 🙂

You can get there on your own, or pre-order diving in Tulamben, then you will be picked up from anywhere in Bali and taken to the dive site. You can order a dive.

A few photos from the scene, as well as coordinates on how to find the ship, read in our separate article on Tulamben:

Menjangan is located in the north-west of the island, but we ourselves have not yet managed to get there, and few of the tourists reach it, although according to stories, it is very cool there. As soon as we go, we will write about this place in more detail.

And the most amazing diving, according to dive acquaintances who have repeatedly dived here, is just off the coast of the small island of Nusa Penida (only half an hour by speedboat from Bali). It is there that one of the most the best places for diving, because there are huge manta rays and other more exotic inhabitants of the warm sea.

There is a good diving school on Nusa Penida, during our trip we met European guys, the founders of the dive school, but alas, we never dived with them, because we got into the muddy water season, when manta rays migrated to more deep places. On Penida there are spots for advanced divers with underwater grottoes and caves, as well as those that can be reached from the shore without a boat, which is convenient for beginners.

Not as diverse as Penida, but quite excellent diving and snorkeling all around east coast, read our descriptions of these places here:

Well, if you want not just to look at the fish, but to see someone bigger, then it's best to go to the neighboring island of Nusa Penida and dive there with manta rays (huge stingrays).

At the point where manta rays are found, you can like Well, if you have a couple of days left, then we recommend staying in Nusa Penida for a couple of days - this is very beautiful island. Again, you can get there and plan the entire route on your own, or do it as part of a group - you will be picked up from the hotel, taken to the island and shown there all the most interesting.

Rafting

There are 2 rivers in Bali where rafting is organized. Rafting on the Ayung River is considered more scenic because there are gorges/canyons, small waterfalls, and even a wall with Balinese prints. The river itself, despite a large number of thresholds of category II and III, yet more calm, so the descent here is not for sports interest, but more, as they say, “for fun” 🙂 Rafting is possible even with children (from 8 years old).

On the second river, Telaga Waja, there are fewer scenic spots along the route, but as a bonus, there is a spectacular descent along an artificial dam.

So decide for yourself what you like best, in any case, if you are in the mood for leisure and are ready for adventure, then rafting in Bali is just what you need!

Rafting in Bali is offered by many companies, prices are from $25 to $80, the cost varies, depending on the service provided and the length of the route (there are alloys from 3 to 9 km)

canyoning

If the feeling of adrenaline from rafting is not enough for you, then go canyoning - there will be even more impressions and emotions! Canyoning includes a variety of ways to descend: jumping from waterfalls of various heights, sliding along stone chutes, descending on a carabiner - when you need to relax your hands and soar on the belay and "rock climbing" descent with ropes and carabiners

Canyoning is an opportunity to walk through the wild jungles and gorges, see the incredible landscapes of waterfalls and touch the world of extreme sports in a completely safe way.

Dolphins at dawn

Many people really crave to see dolphins in the ocean, and this can be done in the north of Bali, in the Lovina Beach area. At dawn, tourists are put into fishing boats and taken to the ocean, where dolphins arrive at the right time. They sail for breakfast, yes, they are fed from boats, but how else would they swim, what interest do they have in tourists 🙂

The pleasure costs about $15-25, depending on the company providing the tour.

Kecak, Legong and Barong dances

There are 3 main traditional dances in Bali - Kecak, Barong and Legong. All of them are very different, the most unusual and bewitching is Kechak, he is able to even enter a trance, I won’t describe it, it’s better to see it once)

In terms of energy and drama, Barong is in no way inferior to Kechak, it is also more of a theatrical performance than a dance. A fight between the evil witch Rangda and the good mythical creature Barong is played out on the stage.

Well, for pleasure and aesthetic pleasure, in my opinion, Legong is most suitable - a dance of femininity, youth, purity and grace.

This is really a very unusual and beautiful dance of young fragile and flexible girls and girls in silk, embroidered with gold, outfits with expressive makeup on their faces.

The plot in Legong, as well as in the Kecak dance and other traditional Balinese dances, is less important than the dance itself, which hypnotizes with melodic overflows of music, and fascinates with clear, and at the same time smooth movements of the dancers, where everything is involved - from fingertips to eye

Dance performances take place at different venues almost every evening, at least in the cultural capital of the island - Ubud and its environs. The pleasure costs 70-80 thousand rupees, the performance lasts about an hour.

Also at sunset, performances are held in almost all the main tourist temples of the island, for example, such as Well, and of course, I captured these colorful dances on camera:

It was an unexpected discovery for me that there is a theater in Bali, and even with a large-scale show of this level. Devdan's production is really very cool and professional, we have something to compare with, we were at the performance of "Mystery" from the Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas, during, (more precisely in Macao) - at the show, in St. Petersburg - at the performances of the Todes ballet.

Here, everything is about the same, only with a Balinese accent, in the performance there are elements of the culture of the brightest islands of Indonesia - Sumatra, Kalimantan, Papua, and of course, everything is very large-scale and colorful, there are episodes with fire, water in the air on the ropes

In general, if you like to get aesthetic pleasure, I recommend planning a Devdan show for the evening, especially since the theater is located in one of the most popular tourist areas Bali - Nusa Dua.

Alas, photo and video shooting at the show is prohibited, but this did not stop us from sharing our impressions with you and taking a couple of shots with the artists after the performance.
Detailed information about the Devdan show, about which places in the hall are better to take, and so on, in our article:

Taman Nusa - park of culture and traditions of Indonesia

Taman Nusa is a new huge park of culture and traditions of Indonesia for curious tourists. In addition to museums, here you can not only look at houses typical for each region from the outside, but also look inside, touch utensils, sit on antique armchairs and the most interesting thing is to chat with the original inhabitants of various Indonesian islands or watch their work, whether - modeling, sewing, and other household chores.

The park also hosts performances, dancing, playing musical instruments, singing, you can participate in everything, the employees and artists of the park are happy to help you learn a new craft 🙂
In a few hours in Taman Nusa Park, I filmed a lot of material, and thanks to the cool guide Ketutu, we simply could not help but fall in love with the culture of Indonesia, we urgently wanted to see all the islands with their buildings and peoples live!

Also, during our visit, we met and talked a little with an interesting businessman - the creator of this unique corner of culture in Bali, Santoso Senangsyah and his family.

In addition to a walk in the park, we were offered to dress up in traditional Javanese wedding dresses, we had never taken such photos before, but here we had a reason - and the outfits turned out to be suitable))

For a detailed article about Taman Nusa Park in Bali, vivid photos of unusual houses and colorful residents, see and read here:

Bali Zoo and Bali Safari & Marine Park

You can look at wild animals in Bali in two places - in the Zoo and in the Safari Park. If you choose one thing, then perhaps you should stop at the Safari Park - there, on an area of more than 40 hectares, you can see Javanese leopards, African giraffes, zebras, rhinos,

giant monitor lizards from Komodo Island and other animals.

Night safari deserves special attention - this is for those who want to tickle their nerves with a close (but safe) meeting with lions and tigers.

In addition, in the park you can ride elephants and feed them, visit an aquarium with 40 species of various tropical fish. Also in the park there is a Balinese theater with dance performances, in general, you won’t be bored 🙂

Bali Bird Park

More than 2,000 tropical plants from various regions of the country grow in this park, and almost 1,000 of the 250 bird species live. In addition to the birds themselves, both in cages and flying around the park, or arrogantly walking along the paths, demonstration flights of specially trained birds, cockfighting shows and bird feeding are held here.

The park will be of interest to both adults and children, first of all, everyone will certainly want to take a picture with brightly colored tropical parrots, by the way, they are talking 🙂

The park has small hummingbirds and huge pelicans, owls and handsome pink flamingos, as well as white peacocks.

All the details about Bali Bird Park with our impressions, as well as a couple of dozens of the most interesting facts about the life of birds, read in the article:

This park borders on another, no less interesting tourist attraction - The Rimba Reptile Park, so if you like lizards, iguanas and other “crawlers”, look there too, there is a special price for visiting both parks at the same time.

Waterbom Waterpark

When we learned that Waterbom Water Park in Bali is considered one of the best water parks in Asia, we certainly wanted to visit it

In the company of friends, we spent almost 4 hours in the park, we had plenty of rides on all the slides, some of them more than once, and managed to get a little suntan, because the park is completely open-air!

There are a lot of attractions, some were amused, and some we called the “capsule of death”. The park has pools and sun loungers around them, areas with restaurants, cafes and ice cream parlors, massage pavilions and gaspots for relaxation, as well as a huge playground with mini slides in the pool for kids

About what kind of slides and attractions are in the Waterbom water park, the opening hours and the cost of tickets to the park, as well as how fun you can spend half a day or even a whole day there, read our article:

Tukad Cepung Waterfall is located south of Ubud. It is definitely considered one of the most picturesque waterfalls in Bali. Tukad Chepung Waterfall is a stream of water falling into a dark well through rays of bright light. This very picturesque place constantly attracts instabloggers who want to get a gorgeous photo in their collection.

You can drive up to the waterfall by car or bike, but from the parking lot to the point you will have to walk about 15 minutes on foot. Entrance to the territory of the waterfall is paid, but the price is low - only 10,000 Indonesian rupees. This is very small, cheaper than a portion of Mie Goreng (fried noodles with vegetables) in a local cafe.

The best time to visit Tukad Chepung Waterfall (Tukad Chepung Waterfall) - these are sunny days, which are extremely rare in Ubud.

2

Abandoned Boeing 737. Bali, Bukit Peninsula.

Many people talk about an abandoned plane in Bali and it often flashes on Instagram, as it is a legendary and super popular attraction of the island. In fact, there are THREE abandoned planes in Bali. Yes Yes. Three whole aircraft and several more sawn fragments of the fuselage different models which are scattered across different parts of the island.

One Boeing 737 (the most popular) stands on the Bukit Peninsula near Pandawa Beach. The second exactly the same found its last port in South Kuta. And the third whole Boeing 737 was found in the western part of the island of Bali in the Jembrana Regency area. We marked all these abandoned planes on the map of Bali attractions, which you will find at the very beginning of this article.

3 Ubud Hanging Gardens Hotel

This 5 star hotel in Ubud can be considered one of Bali's luxury attractions. It is a complex of luxury villas located on a mountain in the jungle. Each villa has its own private pool and fantastic panoramic views. And there is also a common area with a two-level pool and a view of the Ayung River.

This is an ideal place for some significant events in life, well, or not very significant ones, if you have enough money. The price of such a villa on Booking.com starts from $570 per night. By the way, this hotel is included in.

4 Pura Lempuyang Luhur

Pura Lempuyang is a complex of temples (very beautiful) that are located on a mountain and are connected by stone steps. They say that you will have to walk 1700 steps to reach the topmost temple, which is located on the peak. But in fact, it is not necessary to climb that high (although I recommend doing this), beautiful pictures can be taken at the lower levels.

A visit to Pura Lempuyang is paid. At the entrance you will be asked to make a donation. The temple can only be accessed from the south side. There is parking and trail access. In the same place, they will show you a map of the trail, because it will bifurcate and connect, and you can get lost rather badly.

5 Kelingking beach

Kelingking beach

Kelingking Beach is considered a secret beach, although you have seen these breathtaking photos on blogs and instagrams of travel bloggers. It is located on the southwestern edge. It's near Bali and there are comfortable speed boats ($35 round trip). There are also tours.

The beach itself is hidden in a small bay, which is surrounded by tall cliffs. It is notable for its panoramic platform, where you can take crazy selfies or a fantastic landscape shot. If you find yourself in Nusa Penida, I highly recommend visiting Kelingking Beach at sunset.

If you decide to go down the path, be aware that some steps may be missing and the ascent may be somewhat difficult. Be sure to bring water with you as the beach is completely wild. Please note that there is a strong back current on this beach.

6 Tegallalang Rice Terraces in Ubud

In general, there are several most picturesque places on the island of Bali, with fantastically beautiful levels on which rice fields are built. In this overview of attractions, we will talk about the most popular place in Bali where you can see the famous rice terraces. These terraces are located in the center of Bali in the Ubud area in the village of Tegallalang.

Initially, these were ordinary peasant lands where rice was grown. But today it is one of the top tourist places on Bali. The entrance was paid, there are souvenir shops and cafes around. There are even special tours to the rice terraces in Ubud.

Finding the Tellalang Rice Terraces is quite easy. You just need to turn around in time main road. We will mark this place on the map. The map awaits you at the top of this list.

Taman Festival is a huge, abandoned shopping and entertainment complex that was almost completely built but never opened. Eight hectares of territory, an Olympic swimming pool, restaurants, boutiques and so on. Today it all turns into a jungle.

Taman Festival Park is a favorite place for graffiti artists and all the cool photo hunters. It is easy to find it, parking is paid (2500 rupees), sometimes local guys can also forgive money for entry (10-15 thousand).

No one knows exactly why the owner left the almost completely completed amusement park. There are legends that he was intimidated by Islamic radicals who staged terrorist attacks in Bali in the 2000s. They also say that lightning hit the roof of the building and it collapsed.

Taman Festival Park is located right on the coastline in the northeast of Denpasar.
