Resorts of the Dominican Republic: where to go? Description, prices, reviews. Beaches and water sports

11.01.2019

The Dominican Republic, or simply the Dominican Republic, occupies most of the island of Haiti, and also has a number of small islands in its jurisdiction, which looks extremely attractive in terms of tourist recreation. Being the second largest country in the West Indies (after Cuba), the Dominican Republic has a long coastline - almost 1,300 kilometers, which indicates an impressive number of large and small resorts. As the Dominican lands are washed by the waters Atlantic Ocean and caribbean, travelers often have questions - are there any differences between these coasts, what are they, and in this case, which part of the Dominican Republic is better to prefer for a vacation? Let's try to figure it out.

Atlantic coast of the Dominican Republic

the Atlantic Ocean washes northern and eastern parts Dominican Republic. The very first thing that can be said about the resorts located on these shores is that they should be chosen, first of all, by all windsurfers, advanced divers and adherents of other marine activities. The Atlantic carries stormy waves, and if the eastern coast of the Dominican Republic is covered by an extended coral reef shield, then on the northern shores, it happens that tourists do not dare to swim for several days.

Territorially to northern part The Atlantic Coast includes the coastline from the border with Haiti to the Samana Peninsula. Another unique feature of the region is that a relatively small segment is represented by many climatic zones. On the western "outskirts" of the northern coast, it is very dry - even arid. The terrain here is rather monotonous, flat. Vegetation does not tend upward either: green spaces are represented mainly by shrubs. The seeming dullness of the area is diluted with two magnificent national parks with thickets of outlandish mangroves and beautiful sea views.

The piece of land between Cofresi and Nagua is also called the Amber Coast due to its rich amber deposits. Golden beaches here are interspersed with lush mountain forests, which is why most of the northern coast hotels are concentrated in this region. Mountain biking, horseback riding, ocean fishing, surfing, diving and other extreme sports are most widespread here. Speaking of diving: the Dominican Republic as a whole is considered the best place Caribbean for snorkeling and scuba diving: coral reefs and underwater lawns in this region are distinguished by an amazing variety of flora and fauna (there are beautiful tropical fish and stingrays in the local waters, even manatees and humpback whales swim!), the bottom relief is very picturesque and rich in cavernous formations, but the most interesting and exciting came to the bottom from the surface - these are sunken ships of various eras. Over the past half century, about four hundred ships have been in distress in the region, so there is something for divers to admire. It is not surprising that under such conditions in any resort in the Dominican Republic a solid diving center, or even more than one, will be waiting for you. The Atlantic coast of the country is worth choosing for experienced divers, while beginners can practice and gain experience in the much calmer waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Samana Peninsula ends Northern part Atlantic coast. Perhaps this is the most picturesque part of not only the Dominican Republic, but the entire Caribbean. This is how we usually imagine an exotic paradise: many kilometers of deserted expanses of white sand, tired coconut palms leaning over turquoise water. Resting on Saman in January-March, you can watch whales splashing in the distance: at this time they come here from the cold waters of the North Atlantic to reproduce.

The best resorts on the north coast of the Dominican Republic

Puerto Plata

The heart of the northern Dominican Republic, the place where Christopher Columbus landed, is Puerto Plata, stretching along the Amber Coast. This resort is the second most popular in the Dominican Republic after Punta Cana, although it is very different from it: here you can relax in silence, relax, enjoy nature and learn how to tame the Atlantic wave on a surfboard. active lovers nightlife Puerto Plata will surely disappoint with a long and unsuccessful search for a working disco. Founded at the end of the 15th century, the city invites its guests to explore a number of ancient buildings (the old city center, the fort and the San Felipe Cathedral) and visit several good museums. The main wealth of the resort is bestowed upon it by nature. For example, Isabel de Torres is the highest mountain in this area, to the top of which you can climb by car, on foot or by cable car. From the top of Isabel de Torres, arms outstretched, looking at the city ... a statue of Christ the Redeemer! A reduced copy of the masterpiece from Rio de Janeiro was presented to Puerto Plata by the Brazilian authorities.

To visit Puerto Plata and not visit the reserve "27 fountains" would be a grandiose omission. This is a natural water park with twenty seven, as the name implies, cascading waterfalls. Tourists are invited to climb seven, twelve or all twenty-seven waterfalls along secret paths and rope ladders, and then go down the water.

Playa Dorada

A little east of Puerto Plata is the resort complex Playa Dorada. It is very popular among tourists, also due to the airport, located just 15 minutes away, which is very convenient for families with children and pensioners who can hardly endure long journeys. But, of course, this is not the only advantage of Playa Dorada. A fabulous-looking beach with a gentle entrance to the water is marked blue flag and is considered one of the best in the Dominican Republic. amazing nature, highest service v local hotels, unlimited space for active and extreme pastime, a large selection of restaurants and bars, the famous 18-hole golf course and a casino - all this in the complex makes Playa Dorada an ideal vacation spot for any category of tourists.

Cabarete

A resort for young, mobile, full of energy and adrenaline people. He himself is young - just a dozen years ago, fans of surfboards chose the tiny fishing village located here for their activities, and now Cabarete Beach is included in the world's Top 10 places ideal for surfing. All thanks to the fact that not a single coral barrier interferes with the waves of the Atlantic Ocean, and peppy trade winds delight lovers of sea extreme sports all year round. Cabarete annually hosts world windsurfing competitions, as well as tournaments in kiteboarding, which is gaining popularity. Coastline The resort is abundantly dotted with various bars, because where else, if not in a noisy establishment with a glass of strong drink, to relax after taming the Atlantic waves?

For those who do not belong to the cohort of extreme athletes, we can recommend a visit to the El Choco National Park, which is a little older than the resort itself: only 25 years ago it was given this official status. In El Choco, you will find the richest flora, many orchids, tropical birds and even a dozen species of bats, but the main asset of the park is the system underground caves with pools "Caribbean Karst", where you can get with a tour and swim. The territory of the reserve is decent, it’s easy to get lost on foot without a guide, so it’s better to hire a guide or go around El Choco on horseback or in jeeps.

Sosua

Another youth place on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic is comfortably located in a calm bay between Cabarete and Puerto Plata. small resort is the party center of the region: there are many bars and discos in Sosua, mostly bachelors rest here. The local white-sand beaches are quite wide, therefore, despite the large number of tourists, everyone here can stay comfortably. Not far from the coast there is a compact but densely populated coral reef where you can go snorkeling: the local diving center will provide tourists with vivid impressions. Other attractions in Sosua include Botanical Garden and the old market, as well as the Jewish quarter: back in the 1940s, Jews who fled from Europe found refuge here. V winter time the main entertainment here is boat trips to flocks of humpback whales that swim here to procreate.

Samana

This peninsula is highly recommended to visit independent tourists. Despite having two international airports and three major cities, Samana remains quiet, calm place and is famous for its virgin nature: coconut groves, caves, waterfalls, clear rivers and deserted beaches - pure relaxation. The peninsula has several national parks, the largest of which is Los Gaitises with mysterious caves, in which the Indians used to live (as evidenced by the drawings on the walls), and now only bats. Another local attraction that would be extremely unfair to ignore is the 30-meter El Limon waterfall. They say that everyone who bathes in it is waiting for untold wealth. Tours and tastings at the ranch where coffee and cocoa are grown are very popular.

Part of the province of Samana is the small island of Cayo Levantado, also known as Bacardi Island - it was here that the first commercial of this popular brand was filmed. And if you are lucky enough to be on the peninsula in February, then your path must necessarily run through the capital of the province - the city of Santa Barbara de Samana, where a merry salsa and meringue festival takes place at this time.

East coast The Dominican Republic, washed by the Atlantic Ocean, is considered the most popular and sought-after recreational region of the country. Here are the largest resorts and there are practically no cities in the usual sense of the word. It is here that the hotels with which tour operators from the CIS countries are most actively working are located. A large coral reef stretches almost along the entire coast, protecting the land from the energetic waves of the ocean and along the way creating excellent conditions for memorable diving. In other words, the resorts of the eastern part of the Atlantic coast of the Dominican Republic will be an ideal place for recreation for both active and restless tourists and contemplative couch potatoes.

Best Resorts east coast Dominican Republic

Punta Cana

This is a huge resort region, located at the "junction" of the Atlantic Ocean with the Caribbean Sea. The biggest, the most popular, the most beautiful - you can pick up adjectives in a superlative degree of comparison for a very long time to describe it. The main pride of Punta Cana - wide beaches dotted with coral paper-white sand, lined with thick coconut palms and lined with exotic bungalows covered with dried palm paws. And all this beauty is in municipal property, so you can sunbathe and swim freely and free of charge. Punta Cana was also lucky with the weather: the rainy season here is very short, and the average monthly temperature is almost unchanged all year round - around 30 degrees, which are softened by light ocean breezes. This resort for honeymooners is becoming more and more popular: the days spent here will be remembered by the newlyweds all their lives as a real honeymoon.

A few words about the national Dominican fun - diving: coastal waters are very transparent, and visibility under water in the summer season reaches 30 meters. The most popular for swimming is the part of the reef, which is called the "Marinarium", where eagle rays and even harmless baleen nurse sharks live. There is also a “own” sunken ship here: even from the shore you can see the mast of the cargo ship Astron sticking out of the water (by the way, it was listed on the balance sheet in Russia), which ran aground during a storm in 1978 and went to the bottom. Jeep safari is another active, gambling and highly demanded entertainment among tourists from the CIS countries, with the help of which you can travel from a cool hotel civilization to a riot of tropical jungles for a day and feel like a hero of an adventure action movie. Also in the vicinity of Punta Cana there are a dozen first-class golf courses, some of which, such as Punta Espada, are included in various world ratings. And if someone does not like these bourgeois excesses, then welcome to the world of agritourism: there are several villages near the resort where travelers can touch the life of simple local residents and personally participate in the harvesting of sugar cane or other household crafts.

Fans of hanging out and dancing in Punta Cana will not have to lose heart: in addition to the discos available at each hotel, the resort offers to visit a lot of original clubs, the most popular of which, perhaps, can be called Imagine, located in a natural cave: three dance floors framed by stalactites will definitely remember for a long time!

bavaro

In the very southeast of the Dominican Republic is the resort of Bavaro, which can be classified as "luxury". Just some 30 years ago, the winds simply rustled in the mangroves here, and today the area has all the attributes of an aristocratic holiday: five-star hotels, tennis courts, casinos, golf courses, stables, expensive shops and even a dress code in a number of establishments. For those who are satisfied with comfort and respectability, Bavaro is ready to offer a lot of entertainment in addition to diving, snorkeling and jeep safari, traditional for the whole country: for example, an excursion to the Palm Cemetery, where strange birds live in mangrove deadwood, or to the Oleg Bat House cave - dwelling of several species of bats. Those who come on vacation with the whole family have the opportunity to take the children to the dinosaur park or Manati Park, where you can swim with dolphins. A new level of nightlife is offered by the most famous club in Bavaro, Coco Bongo - this is not just a disco, but a real show with large-scale choreographic performances, vocal numbers and acrobatic etudes.

Cap Cana

If you are rich, then why not visit Cap Cana? This is a small and very young resort, one of the co-founders of which is Donald Trump. Just ten minutes drive from Punta Cana Airport, you can live in a luxurious bungalow with private access to the ocean. Beauty, cleanliness and level of service in Cap Can go far beyond the conventional scale of five stars. The cost of all this happiness is rather big, which is why businessmen and Hollywood stars fly here all the time.

Caribbean coast of the Dominican Republic

Caribbean Sea washes southern part Dominican Republic, so the two most obvious differences between the local resorts from the northern and eastern ones are the absence of waves and higher water temperatures. The capital of the state, the city of Santo Domingo, is located on the Caribbean coast, and the famous islands of Beata and Elephant are also located here.

The best resorts on the south coast of the Dominican Republic

Boca Chica

Located near the capital of the Dominican Republic, the Boca Chica resort can be classified as affordable and affordable. At the same time, the moderate cost of vouchers here in no way affects the conditions of rest or the level of service. Families with children primarily seek Boca Chica: the resort has the unofficial title of the largest bath in the world due to the always warm and calm water and a very gentle entrance to the sea. Boca Chica Beach is considered the cleanest on the entire southern coast: the coral reef takes on everything that waves can bring here, and natural underwater springs constantly feed the bay with crystal clear water.

The history of Boca Chica dates back only a few decades, so the resort cannot offer any special attractions to its guests. The most interesting place in the city is Calle Duarte, where most of the entertainment venues are concentrated.

In Boca Chica, you should definitely go diving: in the local region ideal conditions for your diving debut, and there are two shipwrecks in La Caleta Underwater Park! In the immediate vicinity of the shores of Boca Chica there are two tiny islands- La Matica and Los Pinos, which can be reached even on your own by renting a sea bike. The first is covered with mangroves, the second - with pine trees, where you can hide from human noise and feel like a Robinson.

La Romana

Painting the beach beauties of La Romana is a thankless task: small White sand, turquoise water and coconut palms here are as incredible as in the already described Dominican resorts. The main focus of La Romana is a quiet and relaxing family holiday. Although the city is over 500 years old, it is also not very rich in attractions: living a quiet life of a hard worker, La Romana has been known throughout its history as a center for processing sugar cane. Nevertheless, there are several interesting places in the vicinity of the resort that are worth visiting. For example, the village of artisans and artists of Altos de Chavon. Its construction was completed only in the 1990s, but all the buildings in it correspond to the canons of Italian architecture of the 16th century. The picturesque area (a hill above the gorge) and man-made beauty often attract newlyweds here for a wedding ceremony.

Near La Romana, the Chavon River flows, along which you can kayak. You should definitely visit Cueva de las Maravillas ("Cave of Miracles"), which the skillful hands of architects turned into a real underground palace with several halls, stone bridges and stalactite arches.

Saona

While relaxing in La Romana or Punta Cana, you can go on a day trip to Saona Island. Once upon a time, a commercial for the Bounty chocolate was filmed on this island, and since then the heavenly views of Saona have been firmly imprinted in memory, and even the term "bounty island" has appeared in everyday speech, which can briefly and clearly describe the unearthly beauty of any coast. Unfortunately, it is impossible to settle here: there is not a single hotel on Saona, and the island itself is a natural reserve.

Santo Domingo

The capital of the Dominican Republic, located at the point where Osama flows into the Caribbean Sea, more than compensates for the lack of attractions in other cities in the region. Founded in 1496 by the younger brother of Christopher Columbus, Saint Domingo is the first city in the New World. The rich architectural heritage of the XV-XVI centuries allowed it to get into the UNESCO registers. An abundance of colonial era attractions in 2010 brought Santo Domingo the title of cultural capital of the Northern and South America, so get ready: there will be a lot of interesting things here!

The well-preserved Osama fortress, which protected the city from pirate raids, the Alcazar de Colon Palace, the first in the New World Cathedral- all these structures arose on the Caribbean coast at the very beginning of the 16th century! The symbol of the city is the Lighthouse of Columbus, and the remains of the great navigator are also buried here. Alleys, parks, beautiful streets, a seaside promenade framed by palm trees - walks along Santa Domingo will be long and pleasant. Nature lovers will also not have to regret that they have chosen the most Big City Dominican Republic: there is a botanical garden, an aquarium, a unique cave complex and a zoo.

Juan Dolio

Between Santo Domingo and La Romana, on the shores of a beautiful bay, there is another popular resort in the Dominican south - Juan Dolio. The town is small and calm, so mostly lovers of peace and tranquility rest here. Comfortable hotels of various price categories are located along the wide sandy strip of the continuous beach. Diving and snorkelling of the highest Dominican quality, hiking and cycling in the surrounding area, visiting a nearby flower farm will diversify your measured rest. The excellent location of Juan Dolio allows you to go to see the sights of Santo Domingo or admire the caves of La Romana at any time. It remains to be added that the Dominicans themselves prefer to relax in Juan Dolio, and the inhabitants of this country know something about resorts.

Barahona

This resort is located in the southwest of the Dominican Republic, at its very border with Haiti on the Pedernales Peninsula. It cannot be included in the list of the most popular due to the fact that it is a little more difficult to get to it. Yes, and there are no huge hotel complexes here either, but the main wealth of Barahona is amazing nature. Firstly, these are deserted wild beaches in a bay surrounded by mountains. Secondly, a variety of picturesque water objects - rivers, lakes, waterfalls. Thirdly, the Barahona is surrounded by unique natural parks and reserves where you can meet iguanas, flamingos, lizards and crocodiles. Also here is mysterious place- Polo Magnetico. If left in this anomalous zone the car is in neutral gear, then you can observe the rarest optical illusion: the car will crawl by itself ... up!

If you want to spend your vacation in paradise, then you should go to the Dominican Republic resorts in the Caribbean. Whichever location you choose - La Romana, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana or any other - everywhere you will be met by palm-fringed beaches, chic underwater tropical gardens, smiling black locals and gentle breezes. The main wealth of the Dominican resorts are the warm sea and sandy beaches. Here are the best hotels in the world, operating on the principle All Inclusive. Juan Dolio is a Dominican resort located in the southeastern part of the island. He is loved by many travelers, but he has earned special recognition among the locals. Those who like the delights of the underwater world come here: near the shores of this particular resort there is a magical coral reef, which you can explore for days on end. The beautiful town, which is located near the capital, is crowded interesting places, it is characterized by luxurious nature and a curious history. There are many museums, small churches and chapels that can be visited at any time. Resort life here is slow, but everyone here only benefits from this.

The brightest resort in the Dominican Republic

Many Dominican resorts on the Caribbean Sea resemble a real fairy tale. One of these places was the resort of Boca Chica, located in a lagoon protected by reefs. The resort is located in the suburbs of the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo. Boca Chica was founded by the wealthy industrialist Juan Visini in the first half of the last century. And the resort development of this place falls on the 50s of the twentieth century. This happened after the dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo ordered the construction of modern hotel"Amaca", which today is called Hamaca Coral By Hilton.

Modern Boca Chica is the busiest resort on the southeast coast. Life here takes place in the rhythm of "merengue", the sounds of which spread from the numerous restaurants located on the beach. Here you can try tropical drinks and dishes from different cuisines of the world. The most popular in Boca Chica are fish delicacies, especially those that are grilled. The main advantage of the resort is a natural 500-meter coral barrier.

Resort capital of the Dominican Republic

The best resorts were founded in the Middle Ages. So, for example, the now popular Santo Domingo was founded back in 1496 by Bartolomeo Columbus, the brother of that same Christopher Columbus. He named the city New Isabella, but then the resort was renamed Santo Domingo, which translates from Spanish as Holy Sunday.

In Santo Domingo, the Osama River flows, which divides it into two parts. The western region is the cultural and business center of the city, while the eastern region is the historical one. The most interesting regions for travelers will be the colonial zone and Gazcue. In the center of the western part of Santo Domingo is the "commercial" heart of the capital. Here are concentrated best shops and restaurants in the city.

Port city of Barahona

We have described all the popular resorts of the Dominican Republic above. But there was one more, on the Caribbean Sea, which is not very popular with tourists, but is no less remarkable for that - this is the port city of Barahona. He hid in the bay, which is surrounded by mountain ranges. Barahona's pride is picturesque lakes scattered throughout the area locality. The resort offers tourists a wide variety of excursions.

Travelers can visit Las Caritasm, an archaeological site located in the northern part of Lake Enrikillo. Pink flamingos, iguanas and crocodiles live in this reservoir. Magnetic Hills is the most remarkable place in the resort of Barahona. And if you have a passion for reptiles, then you can visit Cabritos Island.

Holidays on the peninsula

The amazing country of the Dominican Republic. Which resort to choose for a vacation is a question that sometimes leads many travelers to a dead end. There is another place in the Dominican Republic on the Caribbean Sea that fascinates with its beauty. This is the Samana Peninsula.

In the 18th century, King Ferdinand VI of Spain ordered the founding of the city of Santa Barbara de Samana. Every year in February, a carnival is held here, which is opened with the ambula dance. Only representatives of the masculine sex, dressed in multi-colored masks, participate in it.

The Cordillera mountain range crosses the peninsula from east to west. The ridge has become a natural feature between the island and the protected area of Samana. Samana Bay is a true tropical paradise. It has small islands. The bay is 11 kilometers wide, and its length reaches as much as 54 kilometers.

The resort called Puerto Plata is located in the north of the Dominican Republic, on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean and is very different from the popular and crowded Punta Cana. Puerto Plata is worth choosing for those people who do not like crowds, are not interested in vibrant nightlife and want a calm, measured rest in silence. There are not very many hotels here, the beaches are often deserted, sometimes there was not a soul on those beaches where we were.

As mentioned earlier, there is no vibrant nightlife in Puerto Plata, of course, there are a couple of bars, but you can find a disco there with great difficulty. Despite this, the resort has many cafes and restaurants for every taste and budget - you can go to inexpensive cafes on the coast, which mainly serve local cuisine, there is an inexpensive German restaurant owned by a German (this restaurant is somewhere in the 15 - 20 km from Puerto Plata itself), there is a rather expensive and beautiful Italian restaurant that also offers Mexican cuisine. Food lovers will find a restaurant to their taste there.

Those wishing to go to Puerto Plata should keep in mind that the resort is located on the Atlantic coast and on the vast majority of beaches the ocean is restless, there are medium and even big waves. Those who like to swim calmly will not like it, but the resort is ideal for surfers, especially since there are surfer schools where you will be taught how to catch a wave using a board.

The rest of the entertainment in the resort is mostly closely related to nature - not far from the city... read more

Original north of the Dominican Republic

Time flies! Every year, recognizing certain heavenly corners on Earth, we are becoming more and more convinced that there is no better place for us than the Dominican Republic. Since we want variety, for our fifth trip to the Dominican Republic, our eyes fell on Puerto Plata. Moreover, the RIU hotel provided Pegasus with very preferential and interesting conditions, and the flow of “light brown tourists” rushed to north coast Dominican Republic.

I must say that many were disappointed purely because of laziness to figure out what are the features of this resort. And the resort, I must say, is specific. There are both pros and cons. I will try to highlight in detail the points of view of my wife and I, which, by the way, for the most part, did not coincide.

Path - road:

We have become accustomed to the terribly economical Pegasus airline NordWind, although more than once we promised ourselves not to fly on them again. But this time, the company added to us the negative. And what else! Nearly covered the whole trip. Or maybe it was (sorry), fucking Sheremetyevo, with its terminals at different ends of the airport. We had a transfer from the NordWind St. Petersburg-Moscow flight to the NordWind Moscow-Puerto Plata flight. Both flights and transfers were included in the package. We were assured in the agency that the departure from terminal D, and, accordingly, the arrival is also at this terminal. In general, for the most part, we don’t care, but the crossing was a little over an hour, and we still have to go through customs and all these queues. Landed. We drove up to terminal D. They put us on a bus, and, ... they drove us in a circle for half an hour across the entire airfield to terminal C! Until now, no one understood with what fright we were dragged there. And the luggage was delivered there even later. As a result, we ended up at the other end of the airport 35-40 minutes before the departure of our plane. We are a dozen more of the same families as ours. And no one understands what we should do. And no one really cares that 10 people miss the flight, and everyone knows that NordWind will fly away without us. No announcements, no apologies, nothing! There is some kind of shuttle between the terminals, but no one knows how and when it runs, and even if it leaves right now, it still won’t be in time. There was only one way out: take a taxi and rush to terminal D for 1000 rubles, which everyone did. That's the only way they did it. But the nerves were spent through the roof. We already think that this is a conspiracy at the airport in order to additionally milk tourists. In St. Petersburg, for 300 rubles, I drove through half the city to the airport at night. And in Moscow, in order to travel between the terminals of the same airport, one had to pay a thousand.

Okay, forgot, rest. But when we were flying back, another curious situation occurred at Sheremetyevo. Here we had 5 hours, and we were in no hurry. Again we were brought to the wrong terminal. We used the shuttle. It turned out that it takes 2.5 hours to get from one terminal to another using a shuttle! Well, okay, it doesn’t matter (only we are tired, we haven’t slept for almost a day), we go to check-in, we got there first, and ask us to check in together (the family is still), and by the window. Remember, we are the first. Empty plane. Russian-speaking horseradish at the registration. And he puts us in different rows in the aisle. Actually, it didn’t give a damn - the plane was one-third full, and everyone moved as they wanted. But still, what kind of personnel are grown in NordWind? Where does this disgusting thing come from in the soul of a person who says that, they say, it’s good, he heard us, and at the same time gives us the most bad places. I have only one explanation: he wanted money, and when he did not receive it, he gave us filthy places in revenge and edification. Do you think we are wrong? What about selling the registration of accommodation on the plane in advance at the hotel? It is now legalized in NordWind! Pay 100 bucks (it seems like that much) and we will reserve the seat you specify!. What can I say? Here are the bastards! No company is so humiliated

Puerto Plata Airport:

Nothing special. The building is a simple two-story building with no special features. Forgotten right away. Permonal minimum. Everything is fast to and fro. There are few shops. Less than in Punta Cana. The range and prices are the same.

Puerto Plata

This is a very specific place, which has a lot of differences from the rest of the famous Dominican resort. There are differences positive, there are negative, there is an amateur. First of all, this is a cheap area to stay. Among the locals, it is considered the poorest part, although this is not so noticeable. But it is noticeable that the local people here are a little concerned about petty mercantile problems. Merchants a little more than everywhere else want to sell you their goods, and at a higher price. The prices in the stalls are right here, airport prices! You need to know where to buy what. We will advise later.

Next, the most important thing is the climate. It is due to the fact that it is a mountainous area, which means that a bunch of small rivers and streams descending from the mountains, and flows into big water, as everywhere in the tropics where there are mountains. The consequence of this is humidity, clouds, rain. And one more consequence - fresh water flowing into the salty sea - washings from the fields, microorganisms, algae, in general - a muddy sea, with the exception of certain special places where they are taken for money. On the way from the airport to the hotel, I counted, we crossed the course of about 15 rivers and streams. Mountains are, of course, beautiful and majestic. Clouds in not in large numbers- it's also beautiful. All this pleases the eye. Camera lens too. But the body is not very happy, because the clouds - heavenly wanderers - block the life-giving rays of the sun, and prevent the water from heating to the state of fresh milk, as at the same time the water heats up along the entire Caribbean coast, as well as on the beaches of Punta Cana, where there are fewer waves. In addition, the snow-white sand obtained by natural grinding of pieces of dead white corals is actively mixed with ground mountain soil, which has a different color, mostly black, and such gray beaches are obtained. Using the Photoshop method in photographs, you can get white sand beach but don't let that fool you. This is a gray color of sand, in essence, no worse than snow-white, since it still does not heat up so much to burn your feet. But only the color of coastal water directly depends on the background on which the water is located. On a white background, the water is very beautiful - blue - blue, right turquoise, you can't take your eyes off. And on a gray background, respectively, ..., just beautiful, and that's all. Moreover, it is unclear. The water itself also has its own color, and it is different from the Caribbean color. The angle of incidence of the sun's rays also affects the color of the water. Sunsets and sunrises in Puerto Plata can only be observed from the land side, which is not very beneficial for the color of the water and for melancholy thoughts during a pleasant contemplation of sunsets or sunrises.

So draw your own conclusions. In my opinion, acquaintance with the Dominican Republic is best to start from this area.

RIU MERENGUE Hotel

Decent hotel. Very harmonious price-quality ratio. As far as I understand, due to the fact that this hotel has a fairly large population density. Here, the hotel absorbed more than 300 Russians at a time, and no one even noticed. But it's not too noticeable. Every piece of territory is wisely used. Overcrowding is felt only at the pools, where older couples like to hang out, and in the evening, in places of scenic entertainment. Of course, there are disadvantages, but, in our general opinion, there are more advantages, and we are now ready to visit other hotels of this chain. Why not this one - just because we don't go back to the same places. Well, maybe many years later...

Accommodation.

Everyone writes about the amazing speed of accommodation of newcomers. Indeed, it is something!!!. All hotels around the world need to organize an experience exchange tour here. Such a conveyor was organized - one treated him with a cocktail, the other gave a questionnaire and a fountain pen, the third looked for an envelope ALREADY PREPARED IN ADVANCE with documents and keys, the fourth took the questionnaire, the fifth put on bracelets, the sixth attached a number for the porter to the luggage, and showed the direction where we should move. The porter, by the way, managed to bring our suitcase in 2 minutes. In short, half an hour, and 300 people are accommodated. And this is early in the morning, before breakfast. And the rooms are all ready to move in. This, I tell you, is very pleasant and unexpected, and very useful after a long and difficult flight. By the way, we got a number exactly what we wanted, which we requested via email. mail to the reception. We received, like everyone else, a standard answer that, they say, nothing is guaranteed, everything is possible. I don’t know if they granted our request, or coincidentally, but we got what we wanted.

We were completely satisfied with it. Although, it is noticeable that everything is so old, but it does not cause unpleasant sensations. TV is decent, one Russian channel, which is one crap, and that's good. There is nothing to fly through half the world to hang around in front of the TV set. Of particular intrigue is the dispenser with alcoholic beverages, which is located in the room. Repeatedly heard conversations that, they say, it is now convenient to dig directly from the room. Let no one be deceived, in a cheap hotel they will not put high-quality alcohol in the room. In general, the company "TREMOLS" is the cheapest that produces goofy surrogate fakes, and here in the issue you will find the cheapest options from this swill. The only digestible use of these liquids is to use them in cocktails in small quantities. About the rest of the fullness of the minibar, more precisely, the refrigerator: everything is as usual. Two colas, two Schweppes, two cans of beer (not bad), and two bottles of drinking water without gas. Sometimes it's a sprite. The refrigerator does not work well - it is clogged in a confined space and the evaporator is poorly ventilated. The air conditioning also works so-so, and is a little noisy. But acceptable. It happened worse, but rarely better for the economy option. The room had only the bare essentials. No hair dryer, no iron. From washing only soap and shampoos in bags. Everything is more or less clean. The bed is huge, not squeaky, the illumination is varied, the sockets mostly work, the water pressure is normal and cold and hot, the bathroom is not slippery. You can live.

For the sake of justice, I want to say that not all rooms are equally comfortable. There are places where there is constant noise from working service mechanisms such as laundromats and pumps. It’s even unpleasant to walk there, I don’t know how they live there. But the noise from the evening animation or the daily bustle at the pools should not be afraid. We did not notice such buildings where it would interfere.

Territory

I will not repeat myself. In general, one promenade for three hotels, along the beach. It goes through all the attractions of the hotel. The first thing to do is walk on it. And all questions about the territory will be clear. At the end of this promenade, there is an ascent to this cape with a gazebo, from where standing ocean liners can be seen.

The only thing I want to tell you something interesting is to talk about a very interesting corner hotel where not everyone will wander. And it's not on the diagram. You need to get to the cape, then turn left, go down to that second small beach overlooking the port, go all this beach, and at the end of the beach, walk along a short paved path to the left. Local young barkers are just sitting there, and they invite you to walk there, to their shops. Agree. There are a lot of stalls, and some of them are much cheaper than on that central alley of the hotel. But that's not all. There is a small mangrove reserve behind these stalls. A crowd of turtles, ducks, fish, birds swims - very interesting. And all within the hotel. Nobody knows. The next interesting and long route through the territory is a promenade along the surf line along the beach.

Curious place. It is curious that the shadow over the couches is organized not by special umbrellas - fungi, and not even by palm trees, but by specific trees with thick round leaves of different colors. By the way, the shade is quite good. I would be grateful if someone could tell me their name. Small yellow birds frolic among these leaves, which creates a good atmosphere. The beach is equally good everywhere along its entire length. And the sea is the cleanest and most transparent, ceteris paribus (small excitement) in the middle of the beach and further, to the left, closer to the gazebo. There the sea is not so deep, because of this the waves and undercurrents are already quieter, and the bottom can be seen better in the mask. And the right side, on the contrary, is more muddy, but you can frolic and swim calmly without touching the bottom almost immediately from the shore to the buoys. A mask with a snorkel came in handy a couple of times, but fins never, except for diving. We chose the right wing of the beach because it is closer to the habitats. Plus, it's a little more interesting. On the border of the hotel flows a clear transparent stream that flows into the sea. In this brook, you can watch fish, rabies, and the most interesting thing is that in the coastal mud, a crab claw sticks out of every hole. If you do not wake up for 20-40 seconds, then all this will stir. On the other side of the creek, a dozen local Dominicans sit quietly, waiting to earn money - massages, curling braids, whatever. Quietly they sit. They were forbidden to impose services and cross the river. But we, the guests, can. But not recommended. They frightened with all sorts of passions - muzzles like that the locals can do anything with you outside the territory, and the police will not even figure it out ... It is beneficial for them (Pegasus) to set up the people in such a way that people take more excursions. Actually, it's not all that scary. Everyone walks, one at a time, and in groups, and for a long time, and far away. Naturally, there, to the right, across the river to a wild beach. First there is a series of local miserable market type stalls. Then an endless wild beach with large boulders, a bit reminiscent of the seychelles. You can arrange a very interesting photo session. There is another option for this wild beach go deep into the territory, around these two low characteristic mountains, similar to an overgrown ruined castle. But there was no company. I saw young guys from Moscow send a drone - a quadcopter there from a wild beach in order to find nests of large birds of prey there, which fly around in large numbers. If you find their recordings on YouTube - it's stunned how interesting! Just don't let go!

I hasten to say that it was the most organized diving of all, where I was lucky enough to dive. And in comparison with other Dominican places, I will say this: about the same as diving from Bavaro beach, Uvero Alto, and other places close to Punta Cana. Of course, it does not reach the Caribbean coast at all. But, it's nice that the equipment did not break, the boat is specialized for divers - with ladders and a canopy, the instructors are qualified and friendly, they try to do everything themselves and without an acid mine. They even filled out my dive log! Groups are not overloaded, they do not go out in bad weather. In general, everything is with the soul. And there are more than enough customers in the hotel! You won't be right there the next day. They say the group is complete. The price is the same as everywhere else - two dives - 98 bucks. Recommend. You will not regret.

This is a big plus for the hotel. Delicious, varied, no queues. I can’t even imagine how it is possible to organize the food of such an abyss of people in such a way. I will not repeat and list everything. I will only report the differences. Particularly pleased with the organization of drinking. And for breakfast, and for lunch, and dinner, you can pour anything you want. And beer, and wine (3 types), and tea, and a coffee machine right there, and hot and cold milk, and all sorts of lemonades (Pepsi, Sprite, etc.), and juices like improved yuppies, whatever your heart desires. No restrictions. Charm! In the morning, fruits and vegetables crushed in a blender with ice (fresh). Baking, according to my exacting taste, so-so. Not bad. It happens better. Full of varied fruits. The pineapples were especially delightful. So much so that even all the gums were almost dissolved to blood with these pineapples! I had to take breaks, and it was a big test for the will. Try it yourself - you will understand. In Russia, you will not try such tender and fragrant pineapples.

It is noticeable that this hotel is designed in such a way that zhirtrests do not bother with long trips for food and long breaks. You can crack from breakfast almost continuously until dinner. Lunches, in addition to the main restaurant, are organized directly by the pools next to the bars, and they are open all day. Eat - I do not want! And, you know, there by the pool among the Canadians, I felt like a slender cypress! My stomach lay next to me separately, but I was glad that it did not hang from the sunbed to the ground on both sides, like many neighbors.

Pools

Clean. But cold, until the sea also warms up. The pools are boring and small. Near them are densely sunbeds. But you can always find a place. Places are booked in advance. But there are always empty seats. Especially in hell.

PegasTours

After reading negative reviews about the guides (I think Katya and Evgenia, I don’t remember, I didn’t want to stir up old reviews again), we decided not to listen to anyone, and not to take excursions. But the company prudently changed the lecturer, and some young literate man told about all the excursions so skillfully that we almost ordered something! Just a zombie! But they held on, and are very happy. Nobody NOBODY!!! Of those who bought them, was not satisfied. Very bad organization. And overpriced. In general, if you really, really want to go somewhere ...

And more than got Pegasus Tour - it's paid early booking seats on the plane for the return trip. For me, this is a brazen robbery and deceit. Moreover, there were cases when the seats were paid for and did not receive them. Okay, tired of this topic.

For kids:

There is nothing. Or almost nothing. The hotel is not designed for this. In general, dragging small children through half the world is adult egoism in relation to the child and others, and great stupidity. It's just useless to talk about it. Everyone who has a mind - and they themselves understand this. And the rest on the drum everything. And the health of your child, and the spoiled rest of others.

I don't know what else to write. Please ask questions

In general, I liked the rest, but my wife did not really. The whole holiday was arguing about it - who likes / dislikes what. So, study, read, ask.
